2018년 첫 주일 예배를 드립니다. 올 한 해도 우리가 하나님과 교제하는 좋은 예배를 드릴 수 있기를 바랍니다. 좋은 예배를 드리기 위해서 무엇을 하면 될까요? 목사가 설교를 좀 더 잘하면 될까요? 성가대가 찬양 준비를 더 잘할까요? 찬양팀이 아주 죽여주는 찬양을 할까요? 예배 안내를 잘하면 될까요? 전도가 많이 돼서 이 자리가 가득 차면 될까요? 예, 이 모든 것은 좋은 예배를 드리는 요소들일 수 있습니다. 하지만 핵심은 아닙니다. 좋은 예배를 드리기 위해서 가장 중요하면서 기본이 되는 요소는 바로 우리들 자신입니다. 좋은 설교는 이미 온라인에 천지삐까리입니다. 좋은 성가대 찬양이 중요하다면 큰 교회로 가십시오. 찬양팀이 노래를 기가 막히게 해야 한다면 불후의 명곡이나 복면가왕이지요. 친절하기는 교회보다 호텔이나 레스토랑이구요, 사람 많기는 이글스 게임에 가시면 됩니다. 하나님과 우리가 예배로 만날 때 이 모든 요소보다 비교할 수 없이 중요하고 기본이 되는 것은 바로 예배자, 우리들의 삶입니다.

여러분은 이 영상에 동의하십니까? 교회는 무엇이라고 했습니까? 제가 조금 전에 말씀드린 대로 교회는 바로 우리들 자신입니다. 좋은 교회가 되려면 우리가 좋은 성도가 되어야 하고, 좋은 예배를 드리려면 우리의 삶이 좋은 제물이 되어야 합니다. 설교 말입니까? 찬양 말입니까? 모든 것은 도구에 불과합니다. 설교 없이 예배할 수 있습니다. 찬양 없이 예배할 수 있습니다. 그런데 없어서는 안될 요소가 있습니다.

 

예배가 되기 위해서는 예배의 대상이 되는 ‘신’이 있어야 하고, 그 신께 드리는 ‘제물’이 있어야 하고, 제의를 집행하는 ‘제사장’이 있어야 합니다. 우리가 드리는 예배를 받으시는 분은 누구입니까? ‘하나님’입니다. 변할 수 없습니다. 그렇다면 우리가 드리는 예배의 제사장은 누구일까요? 먼저 우리의 모든 죄를 사하시고 생명과 구원의 길로 인도하시는 대제사장이 있습니다. 바로 예수 그리스도입니다. 대제사장되신 예수님은 지성소의 휘장을 여시고 우리가 직접 하나님께 예배하는 제사장이 될 수 있는 길을 여셨습니다. 우리가 드리는 예배의 제사장은 바로 우리 자신입니다. 그리고 예수님은 참된 제사를 드리는 방법을 우리들에게 보여주셨습니다. 그것은 바로 다른 짐승의 피로 제사하는 것이 아닌 자신의 생명을 제물로 드리는 것이었습니다. 하나님이 기뻐 받으시는 가장 아름다운 제물은 바로 우리들 자신의 삶입니다. 우리가 왜 헌금을 제물로 드리는지 아십니까? 그것이 우리의 삶을 예표하기 때문입니다. 우리의 피와 땀과 눈물을 상징하기 때문에 최선을 다해서 일하고 구별하여 하나님께 드립니다. 하지만 오늘날 헌금은 마치 구약 시대의 짐승으로 드리는 제물과 같은 역할을 합니다. 하나님께서 원하시는 것은 우리의 소득의 일부가 아니라 우리의 삶이 거룩하게 구별되는 것입니다. 일주일에 한번 예배로 나오고 찬송하고 기도하고 설교 듣고 헌금하면 끝나는 그런 예배가 아니라, 우리의 일주일의 삶이 하나님께 드리는 예배의 제사장으로, 하나님께 드리는 제물의 삶으로 구별되어야 합니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 세상에 대해 비겁하고 연약하게 살았던 것을 아픈 마음으로 회개하며 하나님 앞에 모입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 하나님이 은혜와 사랑으로 인도하신 것에 감사하여 교회로 모입니다. 그것이 오늘날 우리가 드리는 예배이며, 예배이어야 합니다.

 

다시 묻습니다. 교회란 무엇입니까? 우리들 자신입니다. 여러분 한 사람, 한 사람이 교회이며 여러분의 가정이 교회이며, 여러분의 직장이 교회입니다. 예배란 무엇입니까? 하나님의 백성인 우리들이 우리의 삶을 제물로 하나님께 나아가는 것입니다. 하나님과 교통하는 것입니다. 저는 2018년에 우리가 이런 예배를 드릴 수 있기를 간절히 소원합니다.

 

오늘 첫 주일 예배를 드리면서 우리가 너무 잘 알고 있지만 실천하지 못하는 것, 하지만 우리 교회가 앞으로 나가야 할 중요한 방향 몇가지를 말씀드리고자 합니다. 저희 교회가 2001년에 6월 10일에 개척되어 이제 16년이 지났습니다. 하나님께서 그동안 2번의 신임투표를 하게 하셨고, 성도들에게 긍휼한 마음을 주셔서 이제 제 3기 사역에 들어가려고 합니다. 목회자는 이렇게 1기니 2기니 3기니 구별하지만 성도들은... 잘 느끼지 못할 수도 있습니다. 하지만 이제 기억하시기 바랍니다. 앞으로 적어도 7년, 우리 교회가 집중할 사역의 방향입니다.

 

1. 교육하는 교회가 됩시다.

 

우리 교회가 가장 많은 관심과 노력을 집중해야 할 사역이 있다면 바로 ‘교육’입니다. 교육의 대상은 자녀들만은 아닙니다. 성도들 모두를 포함합니다. 우리가 살아가는 이 시대와 지역 사회를 포함합니다.

먼저 자녀들을 위한 교회 교육에 투자와 집중이 필요하겠습니다. 이 문제에 대해서는 성도들 모두의 관심이 필요합니다. 혹 여러분이 잘못 생각하고 계실까 하여 다시 말씀드립니다. 교회 교육은 특별한 누군가가, 혹은 교역자...특히 목회자로 헌신하고자 하는 젊은 전도사님들의 책임일까요? 아닙니다. 교회에서의 다음 세대에 대한 교육이란 모든 부모세대의 책임입니다. 모든 부모가 모든 자녀들에 대해 공동의 책임을 지는 것입니다. 교회로부터 사례를 받는 젊은 교역자들에게 책임을 미루지 마십시오. 하나님께서는 우리 자녀들의 신앙 교육을 우리들 부모에게 맡기셨습니다. 교역자들과 교사들은 그것을 도울 뿐입니다. 여러분 자신이 가정에서 신앙으로 살지 않으면서 자녀들이 일주일에 몇 시간 교회학교를 통해서 변화되기를 원하시는 것이 얼마나 큰 모순입니까? 가정에서, 자녀들과의 관계에서, 그리고 우리들의 삶에서 교육이 있어야 합니다. 그리고 교회에서는 우리 모든 부모가 함께 교사가 되고 봉사자가 되어 자녀들을 양육해야 합니다. 우리 자녀들은 부모를 통해서 하나님의 인격을 배웁니다. 안타깝게도 한 가정, 한 부모가 하나님의 풍성하고 온전하신 성품을 다 보여줄 수 없습니다. 그래서 교회의 모든 부모가 모든 자녀들의 부모요 교사가 되어야 합니다. 저는 지난 12월 한 달 동안 교회학교 교사로 자원해달라는 광고를 여러 번 드렸습니다. 그 광고를 나 아닌 다른 사람에게 향한 것이라 여기지 마시기 바랍니다. 바로 부모 된 여러분 한 사람, 한 사람의 귀와 가슴에 드리는 부탁이었습니다. 다시 한번 고민하시고 다음 주일, 제직 수련회까지 자원하는 분들이 넘치기를 바랍니다.

 

또한 교회는 교회에 속한 모든 성도들을 교육해야 합니다. 저는 이 말을 조금 바꾸면 좋겠습니다. 여러분을 교육한다고 하니까.... 지금 내 나이가 몇인데... 라고 생각할 수 있겠습니다. 이렇게 말을 바꾸어 볼까요? 교회에 속한 모든 성도들은 하나님의 부르심을 받을 때까지 ‘학습가능’해야 합니다. 마음을 닫지 않아야 합니다. 마음이 굳어지지 않아야 합니다. 마음이 높지 않아야 합니다. 돌밭이 되면 안됩니다. 가시밭이 되면 안됩니다. 길가 밭이 되어도 안됩니다. 우리의 마음은 하나님의 말씀과 뜻에 대해 늘 열려야 하고 좋은 밭이 되어야 합니다. 저는... 목회자로 여러분께 부탁드리기는... 여러분의 신앙과 사고가 좀 부드러워지면 좋겠습니다. 그래야 하나님의 생각과 뜻이 심기지 않겠습니까?

 

나아가서 교회는 이 시대와 지역 사회를 하나님의 뜻과 말씀으로 교육할 수 있어야 합니다. 방법과 상황에 대한 연구가 필요하겠습니다. 교회는 시대를 바라보는 선지자적인 사명을 감당해야 하는 것이고, 지역 사회에 대해 선한 사마리아인이 되어야 하기 때문입니다.

 

2. 선교적 교회가 됩시다.

 

선교적 교회에 대해 계속 말씀을 전하고 있습니다. 선교적 교회는 선교하는 교회와 다릅니다. 모든 교회는 선교에 일정한 방식으로 동참하고 있습니다. 우리가 지향하는 선교적 교회는 우리가 오랫동안 생각을 나눠온 복음적 중립지대를 말합니다. 교회가 세상에 대해 복음적인 삶의 영역을 개척하고 지역사회와 이웃과 더불어 삶을 나눠야 한다고 했습니다. 그런데 선교적 교회가 되기 위해서는 그것으로 그쳐서는 안됩니다. 설교의 서론에서 이야기한 것을 기억하시기 자랍니다. 선교적 교회, 선교적 성도, 선교적 가정, 선교적 비즈니스가 되어야 합니다. 어떻게 말입니까? 좋은 예배자가 되기 위해서 우리의 삶의 거룩하게 구별되어야 한다고 했습니다. 우리의 하나님께 드리는 예배가 되어야 합니다. 그 예배에 나와 만나는 사람들, 나와 관계 속에 있는 사람들이 함께 참여하도록 인도해야 합니다. 내가 일상의 삶에서 하나님과의 교통할 때 나와 만나는 사람들이 나를 통해서 하나님의 은혜와 사랑을 경험하게 됩니다. 복음이 이렇게 우리의 삶의 현장을 통해서 증거되고 하나님의 나라가 확장될 때 우리는 선교적인 삶을 산다고 말할 수 있습니다. 이런 성도들이 모여서 예배할 때 그 교회가 선교적 교회가 되는 것입니다. 교회가 지역 사회를 위한 프로그램을 많이 하고 이웃을 많이 돕는 것으로 선교적 교회가 되는 것이 아닙니다. 성도들 각 개인의 삶의 영역에서의 변화와 성장이 필요합니다.

 

3. 모든 성도가 모든 사역에 동참합시다.

 

사도 바울은 교회를 사람의 몸에 비유하고 성도를 각 지체에 비유했습니다. 교회는 마치 손과 발이, 눈과 코가 움직이는 몸과 같다는 것입니다. 보이지 않는 지체일수록 더 중요합니다. 몸속에 가려진 장기가 열심히 움직여서 몸이 살아 있습니다. 그 어느 한 장기가 건강을 잃으면 그 장기만 아픈 것이 아니라 몸이 아픈 겁니다. 한 지체가 일하지 않으면 그 지체만 문제가 있는 것이 아니라 몸이 피곤해집니다. 어느날 오른 쪽 다리가 기분이 나빠서 쉬면 오른 쪽 다리의 문제입니까? 몸의 문제가 됩니까?

 

교회는 만인이 한 사람을 섬기는 공동체입니다. 교회는 한 사람이 만인을 섬기는 공동체입니다. 물론 오천이 오천을 섬겨도 문제는 없습니다. 모든 사람이 모든 사람을 섬기고 헌신하는 것이 교회입니다. 물론 방법과 상황은 다를 수 있습니다. 어느 누구도 섬기기만 해야 하는 성도 없고, 섬김을 받기만 해야 하는 성도도 없습니다. 죄송하지만 “나이가 많으니까... 이제 마... 됐다..마... 마이 뭇다 아이가~~”라고 말씀하시는 엘림회원들 있으십니까? 더 드셔야 합니다. 각자의 삶의 영역과 상황에서 섬겨야 할 일이 있고 나눠야 할 일이 있습니다. 여러분의 심장이 이렇게 말해도 될까요? “그동안 참 열심히 쉬지 않고 일해왔으니까... 이제 마이 일했다...마... 한 10분만 쉬자.... 50년을 일했는데 10분 쉬면 어떻노?” 괜찮으실까요? 무엇인가 내가 다른 지체를 위해서 일하고 있어야 합니다. 주님 만날 때까지 말입니다.

 

4. 예배로 모이고 목적으로 흩어집시다.

 

성도들이 모여야 하는 이유가 있습니다. 함께 예배하기 위해서입니다. 서로 교제하며 위로하며 섬기며 하나님께 더 좋은 예배를 드릴 수 있습니다. 성도들이 흩어집니다.... 왜, 어떻게 흩어질까요? 예배가 끝났으니까... 먹고 살기 위해서 흩어질까요? 예배로 모인 성도들이 흘어질 때는 예배로부터 삶의 목적을 새롭게 하고 흩어집니다. 목적을 가지고 흩어집니다. 마치 예수님께서 파송하는 70인의 제자들처럼 예배로 모인 성도들은 지역 사회로, 삶의 현장으로 목적을 가지고 흩어집니다. 어떤 목적입니까? 예수 그리스도의 십자가를 전하기 위해서입니다. 하나님의 나라를 보여주기 위해서입니다. 새생명 얻은 사람의 삶이 어떤 것인지를 증거하기 위해서입니다. 그래서 다시 만날 때까지가 신이 납니다. 내가 목적에 헌신했던 일주일을 다시 만나서 서로 나누고 싶습니다. 예수님으로부터 보내심을 받고 가까운 마을들로 흩어졌던 제자들은 만나자 마자 그들에게 있었던 일을 간증하면서 기뻐했습니다. 이것이 함께 모여 예배했고, 목적으로 흩어졌던 예수님이 만드신 공동체였고, 초대교회였고, 오늘 본문의 안디옥 교회였고, 오늘날 우리들의 교회이어야 합니다. 그 결과는 무엇으로 나타날까요?

 

오늘 본문의 배경이 되는 사도행전 11장의 예루살렘 교회는 놀라운 영적인 경험을 합니다. 성령 하나님께서 이방인들에게도 성령을 부으시며 구원의 은혜를 베푼다는 사실을 알았습니다. 스데반의 박해가 오히려 복음을 이방에 전하는 계기가 되었습니다. 그 박해를 피해서 도망갔던 사람들이 지중해 근방 곳곳에서 복음을 전했습니다. 이방인들이 그 복음을 듣고 교회를 세웠습니다. 그 중에 안디옥 교회가 있었습니다. 예루살렘 교회는 좋은 교사였던 바나바를 파송해서 그 교회를 바르게 가르치고 세우고자 했습니다. 그런데 재미있게도 바나바는 바울을 데리고 갑니다. 안디옥에 복음을 전하고 교회를 세운 사람들이 어떤 사람들이라고 했습니까? 스데반 때에 박해를 피해서 왔던 사람들입니다. 스데반이 박해를 받을 때 누가 그 일을 주도했을까요? 사도 바울이었습니다. 그런데 지금 누가 와서 그들에게 말씀을 가르치고 복음을 전합니까? 바나바는 바울을 데리고 왔습니다. 몰라서였을까요? 아닙니다. 당시에 성도들이 얼마나 된다고 그 사실을 모르겠습니까? 바나바는 참 용감한 사람입니다. 대단한 화해의 사람입니다. 성령 하나님이 그들과 안디옥 교회 사이에 역사합니다. 놀라운 변화와 성장이 있었습니다. 그 결과는 무엇입니까? 안디옥 사람들이 성도들을 ‘그리스도인’이라고 부르기 시작했다는 것입니다. 말씀을 배우고 삶의 현장에서 실천했더니, 모여서 예배하고 흩어져서 증거했더니... 그 결과는 바로 세상이 그들을 먼저 알아보기 시작했습니다.

 

저는 올해 첫 주일 예배를 드리면서 여러분께 올해의 숙제를 하나 드리려고 합니다. 올 한 해를 보내시면서 이웃 사람들에게 최소한 한 번 이상.... 야! 이 사람 완전 예수쟁이네...라는 말을 들을 수 있도록 삽시다. 말씀이 육신이 되게 삽시다. 하나님의 뜻이 내 삶에서 이루어지게 삽시다. 삶의 현장에서 복음의 증인으로 삽시다. 모여서 예배하고 흩어져서 하나님의 목적을 이룹시다. 예수쟁이로 살고 예수쟁이로 불립시다. 예수쟁이들이 모이는 교회가 됩시다. 꼭 실천합시다. 성령 하나님께서 우리와 함께 하실 것입니다.

Title: Missionary Church – ‘real christian’

 

We are here to have our first Sunday service of 2018. We hope to have another year of good worship and fellowship with God. What can we do to have good Sunday worship?  Should the pastor be better at preaching? Should the choir be well prepared? Should the praise team deliver better songs? Should this space be packed thru evangelism? Yes, all of these can be elements of good worship. But that’s not the main point. The most important and fundamental element for good worship is ourselves.  A good sermon is already accessible everywhere online.  If good choir praise is important, please attend big church. If the praise team should be good singers, that would be a variety show. If looking for good hospitality, that can be found at hotels or restaurants rather than at church.  If looking for a crowd of people, that can be found at Eagles game. When we meet with God in our worship, better worshiper, our Christian life is incomparably more important than those elements.

 

Let’s watch a video. It is a video that questions, ‘What is the church?’

 

Do you agree with this video? What did they say the church is?   As I said a moment ago, the church is You. To be a good church, we must be good congregation. To have good worship, our lives must be good sacrifices. Is it sermon? Is it praise? Everything is a good tool. You can worship without a sermon. You can worship without praise. However, there is an indispensable element.

 

In order to have a worship, there must be a ‘god’ that is the subject of worship, a ‘sacrifice’ to the god, and a ‘priest’ to enforce the offer. Who accepts our worship? It is ‘God’. That will never change. Then who is the priest of our worship? There is a high priest who forgives all our sins and delivers us into the path of life and salvation. It is Jesus Christ. Jesus, the high priest, opened the veil of the Most Holy Place and opened the way for us to become a priest worshiping God. The priest of our worship is us. And Jesus showed us how to offer true sacrifices. It is not the sacrifice with the blood of an animal, but to sacrifice one’s life. The most beautiful offering God enjoys is us, our own life. Do you know why we offer offerings? That’s because it represents our lives. It symbolizes our hard work, we do our best at work and offer portion of it as an offering. Today, however, offerings are similar to sacrifices offered with an animal in Old Testament. What God wants is not part of our income, but our lives are sanctified.  Our worship should not be a service where you attend once a week and participate in praise, prayer, sermon and offerings. Rather, our week-long life should be distinguished as worship for God and a sacrifice for God. Nevertheless, we repent before God on how we lived in cowardice and weakness about the world. Nevertheless, we thank God’s guidance in grace and love and gather in church.  This is our worship today, and this should be our worship.

 

I will ask again. What is a church?  Church is us. It is every one of you is church, your family is church, your work is church. What is worship? We, the people of God, come to God with our lives. It is communication with God. In 2018, I desperately wish that we can worship as such.

 

As we give our first Sunday service today, I would like to mention some important directions that we know well but did not practice as church.  Our church was established on June 10, 2001, and now 16 years have passed. God has given me two trust votes and has given me a heart of mercy to the congregation, as I am entering the Third Ministry. The pastor recognizes the First, the Second, the Third Ministry, but the congregation….may not recognizes it. But please remember now. At least seven years from now, following will be the direction of ministry that our church should focus on.

 

1.  Let’s become an Educating Church                          

If there is a ministry that our church should concentrate the most attention and effort, it is ‘education’. Education is not only about children. Includes all members in congregation. This includes all people in this time and the communities in which we live.

First, we need to invest and concentrate on church education for our children. We need the attention of all the church members on this matter.  Just in case you are mistaken, I will say this again. Church education, is it the responsibility of that special someone, an educator….is it the responsibility of youth ministers who want to devote themselves?  No. Education for the next generation in Church is the responsibility of all parents. All parents have a collective responsibility for all children.  Do not convey your responsibilities to young ministers. God has entrusted our children’s faith education to our parents. Our youth ministers and teachers are there to only assist. How inconceivable is it that you want your children to change through Sunday school during few hours of week when there is no faith at home? We must have education at home, in relationship with our children and in our lives. And in Church, all of our parents must be teachers and volunteers and nurture our children together.  Our children learn God’s personality through their parents.  Unfortunately, one family, one parent, cannot show all of God’s bountiful and entirely character.  Therefore, every parent in the church must be the parent and teacher of all children.  I have mentioned several times last December for a month to volunteer as a church school teacher.  Please do not assume that this is directed at someone other than me.  It was a sincere request for parents to volunteer for their children. I would like to ask to consider for another week and hope there will be many volunteers before next Sunday (teachers workshop).

The church must also educate all the church members in the congregation.  I would like to re-phrase this.  Educating everyone….might sound inappropriate. How about this phrase?  All the church members in the congregation must be ‘open to learning’ until they are called by God. Do not be close minded. You should not set your mind.  You should not have high standards. Your mind should not become like a stone field, nor thorny field, nor roadside field. Our heart should be open to God’s word and be a good field.  As your pastor, I would like to ask you…. I wish your belief and thought be soften up.  Don’t you think that will make a good field for God’s thoughts and purpose?

Furthermore, the church should be able to educate this generation and the community with God’s will and word of God.  We need to study the method and situation. The church, should fulfill its prophetic mission during our time and become like a good Samaritan for the community.

2. Let’s become a Missionary Church

We continue to speak about the missionary church.  Missionary church is different from missioning church.  Every church participated in missionary in a certain way. The missional church we are referring to is Gospel center minded, in which we have shared for long time. The church should discover the world of evangelical life and share the life with the community and neighbors.  But in order to become a missionary church, it must not stop.  Please remember the introduction to preaching.  It must be a missionary church, a missionary congregation, a missionary family, and a missionary business.   But how?  He said, in order to be a good worshiper, we must separate our lives with holy. Our worship must be a worship service to our God.  You must lead all people we meet and in relationship with to be part of worship service.   When I communicate with God in my daily life, people who meet with me can experience God’s grace and love through me.  We can say that when we live a missionary life, the gospel is thus witnessed through the scene of our lives and the kingdom of God will expand. When such church members gather and worship, the church becomes a missionary church.  The church is not a missionary church when there is a lot of programs for the community, does a lot of sponsors and a lot of charity work.  Individually, as a church member, need to change and growth with faith in our own lives.

 

3.  Let’s all church members participate in all ministries

The apostle Paul compared the Church to the human body and church members to each other. A church is like a body with hands and feet, eyes and noses that moves.  The more invisible a person, the more important member it is.  If part of your body hurt, it’s not just that part, your whole body hurt. If one member does not work, it’s not just that member, the whole body becomes exhausted.  One day, if your right leg is in bad mood and decides to rest, is that part of right leg’s decision? Or the whole body?

 

The church is a community where everyone serves one person.  A church is a community in which one person serves all community. It is the church that everyone serves and dedicates everyone. Of course, the way and situation can be different. There is no one that only serves, nor no one that is only being served.   I apologize, but within Elim members, are you the person who says “I am too old for volunteer…. I want to stop…. I did many years”.  There are many years ahead of you.  There is work to be served and share in the realm and situation of each person’s life. Can your heart say this? “I’ve been working really hard…I’ve worked for a while…I”ll just take a 10minute break….I’ve been working 50 years but how about 10minute break?”  Will you be okay? We must work for the congregation. Until we meet our Lord.

 

4.  Let us gather in Worship and scatter for Purpose

There is a reason why the congregation should gather.  And that is to worship together.  We can have good fellowship, comfort each other, serve together, and worship God better. Then we separate…  Why? How? Because the worship is over…?  We go back to our own separate lives…?  If we gathered to worship God together, we separate with a new purpose on a mission.  Just like the disciples of the seventy sent by Jesus, are dispersed for the purpose of community and life. What purpose? To deliver the cross of Jesus Christ. To show the kingdom of God.  To be witnessed what the life of new person is as accepting Christ in my life. Therefore, I get excited and anxious to meet again. I get excited to meet and share a week that I dedicated myself to the purpose.  The disciples, who were sent from Jesus and scattered to the nearby villages, rejoiced as they testified of what had happened to them as soon as they met.  This was a community made by Jesus who gathered, worshiped, scattered with purpose, and this was the First Church, the Antioch church as mentioned in today’s Bible verse, and this must be our church. And the result?

 

The Jerusalem church in ACTS 11, it shares a wonderful spiritual experience.  It shows our Holy God poured out grace and salvation to the Gentiles.  The persecution of Stephen was rather an opportunity to spread the gospel to the Gentiles.  People who had escaped from the persecution preached the gospel in the vicinity of the Mediterranean Sea. The Gentiles heard the gospel and built a church. Among them was the Antioch church.  The church in Jerusalem sent Barnabas, a  good teacher, to teach and build the church properly.  But oddly, Barnabas takes Paul with him. Who are the people who preached the gospel to Antioch and established the church? People who escaped persecution. When Stephen was persecuted, who led the work? It was the apostle Paul. But then who comes and teaches them the word of the gospel? Barnabas brought Paul with him. Did he not know? Did people not know? Barnabas is a very brave person. He is a person of great reconciliation.  The Holy God works between them and Antioch church. There have been remarkable changes and growth.  What is the result?  The people of Antioch began to call the members ‘Christians’. People learned and practiced God’s words, gathered to worship and witnessed when separated …. In result, the world began to recognize them.

 

As we are gathered here to worship our first Sunday service of the year, I want to give you a homework. Within a year, I hope you hear from at least one person say, “Wow, this person is a perfect real christian​” Let God’s word be your flesh. Let God’s will be done in my life. Let us live as witnesses of the gospel in our life. Let us gather together and worship and let us serve the purpose of God.  Let us live as real christian​ and be called as a real christian​. Let us be the church filled with real christian​s. Let’s practice.  The Holy God will be with us..
