* 제 목 : 선교적 교회 - 6. ‘신과 함께’

지난 주에 저와 아내는 요즘 한참 화제가 되고 있는 ‘신과 함께’라는 영화를 봤습니다. 아마도 성도 여러분들 중에서도 보신 분들이 있을 줄로 압니다. 잠시 영화를 소개하면, 원래 ‘주호민’이라는 작가의 동명 웹툰을 원작으로 합니다. ‘웹툰’이라니까 잘 모르시겠죠? 이전에는 만화가 책으로 엮어져서 나왔는데 요즘은 인터넷에서 만화를 볼 수 있게 연재합니다. 인터넷의 또 다른 표현인 'web(웹)'과 'cartoon(만화)'을 합성한 말로, '인터넷을 매개로 배포하는 만화'를 의미합니다. 이 만화가 꽤 인기를 얻었습니다. 저승과 이승과 신화, 3부작으로 구성되었는데 내용과 재미를 함께 구현해서 2010년에 베스트셀러가 되었고, 만화로 대통령상을 받기도 했습니다. 원작 웹툰에서는 1편이 저승편이었는데 영화에서는 ‘죄와 벌’이라는 제목으로 소개되었습니다. 주인공 김자홍은 늘 최선을 다해서 인명을 구조하는 소방관입니다. 안타깝게도 등장하자마자 불타는 건물에서 사람을 구하고 자신은 죽습니다. 영화는 그의 죽음으로부터 시작하여 그가 지옥으로 떨어질 것인지 아니면 이승에서 정의롭고 바른 삶을 살았다는 것이 증명되어 다시 환생할 것인지를 결정하는 7번의 재판의 과정을 재미있게 그렸습니다. 일반적으로 이 영화를 한국적 세계관을 바탕으로 하고 있다고 말하지만 실은 불교적인 윤회관에 기독교적인 죄와 벌 그리고 심판, 그리고 사후세계에 대한 한국적 무속신앙까지... 좋게 말하면 잘 융합시켰고 비판하지만 짬뽕으로 섞어놓았다고 말할 수 있습니다.

영화를 보고 난 느낌은 ‘뭐... 이런 영화를 1300만이나 되는 사람들이 보나...’였습니다. 좀 웃기고, 적당하게 죄책감과 눈물을 자극하고.... 생각이 참 기발하고 재미있다... 정도가 제가 할 수 있는 칭찬이었습니다. 이 영화는 딱 한 줄의 대사로 요약될 수 있다는 생각을 했습니다. 영화의 중반과 후반에 주인공들에게서 반복되는 대사가 있습니다. “어제의 슬픔에 오늘의 눈물을 낭비하지 마라!” 과거의 상처나 원망, 분노나 슬픔에 얽매이지 말고 오늘을 최선을 다해 살고, 내일을 희망차게 준비하자는 한국적이고 현세적인 세계관이 영화에서 강조되고 있습니다.

다만 이런 생각이 하나 들었습니다. 영화의 감상평을 보면 ‘눈물을 펑펑 쏟았다...’ ‘인생에서 꼭 한번 봐야한다...’는 등등의 반응들이 있습니다. 저희들 뒤에서도 훌쩍훌쩍 하는 관객들이 있더군요. ‘왜 그럴까? 조금만 생각해보면 저렇게 짬뽕으로 섞어놓은 영화에 이렇게 감동할 일이 아니라는 것을 알텐데...’라는 생각을 했습니다. 하지만 말입니다... 이번 ‘신과 함께’라는 영화 대한 대중들의 반응에는 한국 교회가 정말 심각하게 고민해야 할 문제가 있습니다. 단순하게 묻는다면, 한국 교회가 한국 사회 대중들을 향해서 이렇게 죄책감을 자극하고 바르게 살아야겠다는 자아성찰적 자극을 준 적이 있었던가 하는 것입니다. 영화 개봉 한 달 만에 1300만의 한국인을 울리고, 앞으로 얼마나 더 많은 관객들이 만원 가까운 돈을 내면서 눈물을 흘려줄지 알 수 없습니다. 지난 몇 년 한국 교회가 어떤 내용으로 언론에 오르내렸는지를 기억해 보십시오. 교회는 기업이 되어가고, 아들은 아버지의 목회를 세습하고, 강남 노른자위 땅에 수천억의 교회당 을 짓고, 그 건물이 공적 용도로 건축된 서울의 지하도를 사적으로 사용한 부분에 대해 법원이 철거를 명령하자 ‘영적으로 공공성이 있다’는 말로 변명했습니다. 우리가 이 한 세상 바르게 살지 않으면 짧은 삶을 마친 후에 영원하고 무시무시한 결과가 기다린다는.... 인류가 공유하고 있는 보편적이고 상식적인 메시지가 교회의 손을 떠난 지 오래되었습니다. 왜 그럴까요? 첫째 교회가 정의와 선한 삶에 대한 관심이 없습니다. 부와 성공에 대해서만 집착했습니다. 둘째 교회가 불의와 악에 대해 경고하지 않습니다. 마치 가난과 연약함을 개인의 잘못된 삶의 선택의 결과인 것처럼 외면해왔습니다. 셋째 교회가 구원과 심판, 하나님의 나라에 관한 보다 높은 가치를 가르치지 않습니다. 오직 현실의 복이 목표가 되었습니다. 그리고 마지막으로 교회가 존경받지 못하고 있습니다. 아무도 귀 기울이지 않습니다. 만화에 감동받고 영화에 은혜 받을지언정 교회에서 삶을 변화시키는 메시지를 기대하지 않습니다. 왜요? 존재의 가치를 상실하면 메시지의 능력은 없습니다. 교회가 본질적인 가치를 잃었습니다. 교회가 방황하고 있습니다.

‘이렇게 값싼 메시지에 무슨 감동을 그렇게 많이 받아....?’라며 툴툴거리며 나왔지만 실은 마음에 고통을 느꼈습니다. 깊은 한숨과 반성이 나왔습니다. 아... 정말... 교회가 변해야 하고 내가 변해야겠습니다. 삶의 방향과 지표를 찾을 때 교회를 바라볼 수 있도록 우리를 정화하고 깎고 다듬어야겠습니다. 가장 낮은 곳으로 들어가서 가장 귀한 가치를 붙들어야겠습니다. 좀 제대로 살아야겠습니다. 세상을 위해 십자가를 지신 ‘예수님과 함께’ 살아야겠습니다.

1. “그가 죽임 당함을 마땅히 여기더라”

때로 삶은 이해할 수 없는 방향으로 흘러가기도 합니다. 오늘 우리가 읽은 말씀에서 발견할 수 있는 초대교회 성도들의 삶이 그랬습니다. 이스라엘은 이미 400년 동안 나라의 주권을 잃었습니다. 제국과 제국이 연이어 그 땅을 지배하고 있었고 민중들은 오랜 식민지의 삶에 지쳤습니다. 예수님의 시대, 거리 곳곳에는 병자들이 넘쳐나고 거지들이 넘쳤습니다. 소수의 종교 지도자들과 로마의 편에 붙은 관리들은 날마다 잔치를 벌이며 지상에서 천국을 누렸지만 대다수의 이스라엘 백성들의 삶은 가난하고 피곤한 삶의 연속이었습니다. 민중들은 희망을 찾아서 광야를 헤맸습니다. 보리떡 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리로 5천을 먹였던 예수라는 청년에 잠시 소망을 두었지만 로마와 유대의 종교권력은 그를 십자가에 못박아버렸습니다. 희망은 사라졌는가? 다시 기약 없이 메시야를 기다려야 하는가....? 고민하고 방황하던 그들에게 복된 소식이 들려왔습니다. 십자가에 달려 죽은 예수가 부활했다는 것입니다. 그 어떤 고난도 십자가보다 심하지 않고, 그 어떤 치욕도 십자가만 못하며, 그 어떤 억울함과 분함도 십자가의 죽음을 따라올 수 없고, 그 어떤 상실도 하나님의 아들이 이 땅에 내려와서 십자가에 매달리는 것 같지는 않습니다. 그런데 하나님의 아들 예수님이 그들을 위해 십자가를 지셨습니다. 죽임당했습니다. 그들에게 참된 소망과 생명을 주시기 위해 삼일만에 부활했습니다. 그 예수를 구주로 믿기만 하면 구원의 은혜가 임한다고 했습니다. 그들은 이 복음을 받아들였습니다. 십자가를 붙들었습니다. 예수를 믿었습니다.

이제 삶은 역전되고 절망이 아닌 소망이, 패배가 아닌 승리가, 죽음이 아닌 생명이 그들의 삶에 찾아와야 합니다. 그런데 그들의 평범했던 삶에 고난이 시작됩니다. 교회에서 가장 사랑받고 존경받던 스데반 집사가 돌에 맞아서 참혹하게 죽임 당했습니다. 스데반을 죽인 사울은 기세가 등등하여 교회를 더 박해했습니다. 고난에 고난이 겹치고 슬픔에 슬픔에 겹쳤습니다. 많은 성도들이 지하로 숨어들고, 또 이방의 땅으로 흩어졌습니다. 사도행전은 이 상황을 1-3절에서 이렇게 요약합니다. 1절에서 스데반은 죽었습니다. 교회에는 큰 박해가 있었고 성도들은 흩어졌습니다. 2절에서 성도들은 웁니다. 우는 것 외에 그들이 할 수 있는 일이 없습니다. 3절에서 사울은 교회를 잔멸하고 성도들은 감옥에 갇힙니다.

2. “두루 다니며 복음의 말씀을 전할 새”

만일 여러분이 1세기 초대교회 성도들이라면 어떻게 하시겠습니까? 하나님께 항의하시겠습니까? 하나님, 이게 뭡니까? 믿으면 뭐가 좀 잘되어야지... 왜 믿기 전보다 더 험하고 고통스러운 삶이 시작되는 겁니까? 도대체 뭐하시는 겁니까? 원망하며 부르짖으시겠습니까? 믿어봐야...별 도움도 안되고... 일단 살고 봐야겠고... 믿음을 포기하시겠습니까?

성경은 하나님의 기억입니다. 하나님의 의도입니다. 하나님께서 우리들에게 전달하시는 메시지입니다. 이런 때에 교회와 성도가 어떻게 해야 하는지를 하나님의 의도된 기억을 통해서 전달하십니다. 성경은 박해를 피해서 흩어진 초대교회의 성도들이 했던 일을 한 마디로 정리하고 있습니다. “두루 다니며 복음의 말씀을 전할 새...”입니다. 그들의 삶의 모습을 설명할 수 있는 정말 많은 정황들이 있었을 것입니다. 박해를 피해서 예루살렘을 떠난 그들이 어찌 편안하고 안락한 삶을 살 수 있었겠습니까? 타향에서 오직 믿음 하나를 붙들고 새롭게 삶을 개척해야 했을 그들입니다. 그런데 성경은 그들의 삶에 다른 것들을 묘사하지 않습니다. 딱 하나 성경이 기억하는 그들은 두루 다니면서... 많은 곳에 흩어져서... 복음을 전하는 삶을 살았다는 것입니다.

성도 여러분! 21세기 2018년에 미국 벤실바니아 북서부에서 이민자로 사는 여러분과 저의 삶을 한 마디로 요약하면 어떻게 정리할 수 있을까요? 하나님은 우리의 삶을 어떻게 기억하실까요? 그들은... 흠... 참... 열심히 했더라... 무엇인가를 분주하게 했더라... 바쁘게 살았더라... 뭐하는지는 잘 모르겠지만... 정말 정신없이 살더라... 이렇게 기록할 수 있을까요?

성경이 흩어졌던 예루살렘 교회 성도들의 삶을 기억하고 기록으로 남긴 이유를 아시겠습니까? 그들의 당시 삶을 설명할 수많은 말들이 있었을 것입니다. 고난과 박해가 이어지는 중에 어떤 이들은 가족을 잃었을 것이고, 어떤 이들은 재산을 잃었을 것이고, 어떤 이들은 감옥에 갇혔을 것이고, 어떤 이들은 고문당했을 것이고, 어떤 이들은 억울한 누명을 쓰고 손가락질 당했을 것입니다. 문제는 그래서 그들이 과연 어떤 삶을 살았는가 하는 것입니다. 세상이 그들을 힘들게 하고, 세상이 그들의 삶을 뒤틀고 왜곡할 때 그들은 오직 한 가지 복음을 전하는 자로 살았습니다. 고난이 와도, 핍박이 있어도, 억울하고 분해도, 슬픔과 눈물이 있어도 그들은 삶에서 복음만이 드러나기를 원했습니다. 성경은 그들이 그렇게 했다고, 오직 복음만 나타났다고 말합니다.

3. 빌립과 사마리아 사람들

그리고 성경은 그들 중 한 사람의 예를 듭니다. 그는 빌립이라는 일곱 집사 중 한 사람이었습니다. 성경은 그가 했던 일과 그를 만난 사람들의 반응을 요약하고 있습니다. “빌립이 사마리아 성에 내려가 그리스도를 백성에게 전파하니 무리가 빌립의 말도 듣고 행하는 표적도 보고 한마음으로 그가 하는 말을 따르더라”(행 8:5-6) 이 두 절에서 그를 주어로 하는 동사들과 사마리아 사람들을 주어로 하는 동사들을 구별해보시겠습니까? 빌립은 무엇을 했고, 사람들은 어떻게 반응합니까? 빌립은 ‘내려가’ ‘전파합니다’. 사마리아 사람들은 ‘듣고 보고 따릅니다’. 여러분과 제가 빌립이라면 어떤 동사가 우리들의 삶을 설명할까요? 사마리아라고 하는 예루살렘에 대해 배타적이던 지역으로 피난을 가서 우리는 무엇을 먼저 시작했을까요? 빌립은 그가 시작했던 삶이 그 무엇이든... 그가 먹고 살기 위해 구걸을 하든, 남의 집 품팔이를 하든, 시장에 나가 좌판을 놓고 장사를 하든... 그는 하나님의 인도하심을 따라 사마리아로 내려가서 복음을 말로, 삶으로 전파했다는 것입니다.

그렇다면 사마리아 사람들은 무엇을 했습니까? 듣고 보고 빌립을 따라하기 시작했습니다. 빌립의 무엇을 따라했을까요? 믿음입니다. 복음입니다. 나아가서 복음을 전하는 삶입니다. 어떤 상황과 환경 속에서도 흔들림 없이, 굴복하지 않고, 포기하거나 무너지지 않고, 변명하거나 회피하지 않고.... 하나님의 나라와 십자가의 복음을 당당하게 그의 삶으로 드러내는 일을 그들이 빌립을 ‘COPY’하기 시작했습니다. 여기에 현대교회가 가야 할 길이 있습니다. 교회는 세상이 따라가야 할 길이 되어야 합니다. 성도는 이웃이 본 받아야 할 거울이 되어야 합니다. 하나님의 사람들은 세상이 던지는 고통의 문제에 대한 답이 되어야 합니다.

4. “큰 기쁨이 있더라!”

오늘의 본문에서 우리가 마지막으로 주목해야 할 점은 8절의 말씀입니다. “그 성에 큰 기쁨이 있더라”(행 8:8)라고 했습니다. 8장 1절은 어떻게 시작합니까? 스데반의 죽음입니다. 큰 슬픈과 고난이 임했습니다. 헤어지고 상실하고 흩어지고 핍박당했습니다. 그런데 그 결과는 무엇입니까? 그들로 말미암아 생명이 살아납니다. 7절에서 무엇이라 말합니까? “많은 사람에게 붙었던 더러운 귀신들이 크게 소리를 지르며 나가고 또 많은 중풍병자와 못 걷는 사람이 나으니”(행 8:7) 하나님의 나라가 임한 것입니다. 하나님의 창조적 질서가 회복됩니다. 고난과 핍박을 만난 하나님의 사람들, 그들이 고난과 핍박의 현실에 그들의 삶을 뿌리내리지 않고 그 이유가 된 복음과 성령에 삶의 뿌리를 내렸습니다. 고난과 핍박이 그들의 삶의 열쇄가 아님을, 그것이 그들을 흔들 수 없음을, 그들의 삶의 주인은 오직 하나님이며 복음이며 십자가임을 담대하게 증명한 것입니다. 자기 안에 있는 복음을 입술로, 삶으로 들려주고 보여주었습니다. 그 결과는 사마리아 성의 ‘큰 기쁨’입니다. 순교와 눈물, 고난과 핍박, 고통과 슬픔으로 시작했는데 큰 기쁨으로 나타납니다. 그들이 당한 큰 슬픔이 그들 안에 내주하시는 성령 하나님의 인도하심과 복음의 가르침을 만났더니 세상의 큰 기쁨이 된 것입니다. 이것이 선교적 성도와 교회의 모습입니다.

성도 여러분! 지난 한 주간 참 힘들게 사셨지요? 상상할 수 없는 모든 일들이 벌어지는 세상 속에 우리가 삽니다. 어찌 이런 일들이 내게 일어날 수 있을까... 라고 생각하는, 상상하는 모든 것이 현실이 됩니다. 하지만 여러분, 어디 우리의 현실이 1세기 초대교회 성도들만 할까요? 400년간 식민지의 삶을 살고 있고, 언제까지 계속될지 모르는 그들만 할까요? 사랑받고 존경받던 성도를 잃고 가족과 친척을 잃고 집과 고향을 잃은 사람들만 할까요? 믿음을 이유로 모든 것을 빼앗기고 자유마저 위협하는 일상을 살아야 했던 그들만 할까요? 그런데 오늘 본문을 보니까 그들이 세상의 큰 기쁨을 만들어 냅니다. 그들의 삶에 도대체 어떤 방정식이 숨어 있기에 고난의 현실이 대입되었는데 큰 기쁨과 능력의 삶이 나타날 수 있었을까요? 성경은 그것이 그들 속에 심겨진 십자가라고 말합니다. 십자가의 복음이 그들에게 있었더니 고난이 그들의 삶에 대입되었지만 십자가의 은혜가 나타나고, 핍박이 대입되었는데 온 성이 큰 기쁨을 얻었다고 했습니다. 성경은 그들의 삶을 선교적이라고 말하고, 그들을 선교적 성도라고 부르며, 그들의 교회를 선교적 교회라고 부릅니다. 하나님은 오늘 우리들을 선교적인 삶을 사는 선교적인 성도들이 모이는 선교적인 교회로 부르고 계십니다. 오늘 말씀을 통해서 도전받는 우리들, 이 세상의 현실이 우리를 통과하면 하나님 나라의 큰 기쁨으로 증거될 수 있기를 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다. 창조주시며 구속주이신 하나님이 우리와 함께 하십니다.

Acts 8: 1-8

Last week, my wife and I watched a film called 'With God' which is a hot topic these days. I know that there are some people who have already seen this movie.  Let me tell you little more about the movie.  Originally, it’s made by Ju Ho Min who made as Webtoon. 

You might know what is Webtoon.  Long time ago, cartoons were printed as book but now days, we can see comics or cartoons through internet.  Web and Cartoon words were combined to make a word Webtoon.  

I introduce the movie for a while, I originally use the same name "Webtoon" by the artist named "Zhu Houmin". 'Webtoon' because you do not know, right? Previously, it came out as a comic book, but nowadays it is serialized on the internet. It is a combination of 'web' and 'cartoon', another expression of the Internet, which means 'comics distributed via the Internet'.

This comic was pretty popular. There were 3 parts to the comic and because the contents were fun, it became the best seller in 2010.  It even received a president’s award.

The first part of the original Webtoon was about titled Sin and Punishment.  The main character Kim Ja Hong was a fire fighter but he died in the beginning while he tried to save someone from the building.

The movie started with his death and follow to see if he will fall to hell or prove that he live a just life on the earth so that he can be reborned.  This movie stated that it’s painted current Korean status in the world but in actuality it’s mixed of everything including Buddism, Christianity,  and even shamanism. 

When I saw the movie, I felt like, "Well ... I don’t understand why 13 million people saw this movie.  “Little funny, moderately stimulating with guilt and tears. The idea is so quirky and fun.  That was all the praise that I could do. I thought this film could be summed up in one sentence.   There are repeated lines from the main characters in the middle and later of the movie. "Do not waste today's tears in yesterday's sorrow!" That’s saying that do not be bound by past’s hurtful experience, resentment, anger or sorrow, but live today as best and be prepare for tomorrow.   

I just thought. There are reactions such as "I poured out my tears" and "you must see it once in your lifetime". There were even some spectators who cried.

'Why? If you think about it for a while, I thought that you would not be impressed with such mixed up movies.  "But with this movie “With God”, it shows that there is a problem with Korean churches.  In other words, should Korean churches make public feel guilty? 

I can not tell how long the movie will make the people cry. 

Remember what the Korean church has done in the past few years. The church became a corporation, the son receiving his father's ministry, built hundreds of churches in the land of Gangnam.  Ordered the demolition of the part of the building but they refused stating that it’s public spiritually. 

When we do not live in this world rightly, we are waiting for eternal and terrifying results after our short life .... The universal and common sense message shared by mankind has long been out of the hands of the church.

Why? First, the church has no interest in justice and good life. They only obsessed about wealth and success.  

Second, church does not warn about injustice and evil. They have ignored poverty and weakness as if they were the result of a wrong choice by the individual.

 Third, the church does not teach salvation, judgment, and higher values about the kingdom of God.

 Only the blessing of current reality has become a goal. And finally, the church does not the respect. No one listens to churches.

They might get emotional from the movie but they do not get them from the churches. 

Why?  Because if you lose value, there’s no power of the message.   The churches and lost and struggling.

'I received a lot of impressions from such cheap messages ....' I was grunting, but actually I felt pain in my heart. Deep sigh and reflection came out. Oh ... really ... the church has to change and I have to change. When we look for directions and indicators of life, we need to purify, shave and refine us so that we can see the church. We must go to the lowest place and hold the most valuable value. I have to live a little better. I will live with Jesus who has crossed the world for the world.

Sometimes life flows in an unfathomable direction. It was the life of the early Church saints that we can find in the words we read today. Israel has already lost the sovereignty of the country for 400 years. The empire was in control of the land one after another, and the people were tired of old colonial life. In the days of Jesus, there were floods and beggars all over the streets. A small number of religious leaders and administrators on the side of Rome enjoyed feasts every day and heaven on earth, but the lives of the majority of Israelites were a series of poor and tired lives. The people sought hope. Though they hoped for a moment in a young man named Jesus who had fed five thousand barley loaves and two fish, the power of Rome and Judea crucified him. Hope vanished? Should we wait for the Messiah? They heard good news for those who were worried and wandering. Jesus, who died on the cross, was resurrected. No trouble is worse than the cross, no disgrace can cross the cross, no injustice and disunity can follow the death of the cross, and no loss is like the Son of God coming down to the earth and hanging on the cross . He was resurrected in three days to give them true hope and life. He said that if we believe that Jesus is the Savior, the grace of salvation will come. They accepted this gospel. They hold the cross. They believed in Jesus.

Now life is reversed, hope not despair, victory, not defeat, life, not death.  Those must get into  their lives. But their ordinary lives begin to suffer. The most beloved and esteemed Stephen's deacon in the church was stoned to death. Saul, who killed Stephen, persecuted the church more and more. The suffering overlapped with suffering, the sadness overlapped with sadness. Many saints were hiding underground and scattered into the land of the Gentiles. The Book of Acts summarizes this situation in verses 1-3. In verse 1, Stephen died. There was great persecution in the church and the saints were scattered. In verse 2 There is nothing they can do besides crying. In verse 3, Saul exterminates the church and the saints are locked in prison.

What would you do if you were 1st century early church members? Will you protest against God? God, what is this? If I believe, should it be little bit better? ... Why is it that the more tough and painful life begins than before I believe? What are you doing? Would you cry out in a grudge? It seems nothing is good with faith.  you live once ... Will you give up your faith?

The Bible is God's memory. It is the intention of God. It is the message that God conveys to us. At this time, the Church and the Saints communicate thain their lives. How could they have lived a comfortable and comfortable life when they left Jerusalem to avoid persecution? They were the only ones who had to hold on to one faith and pioneer a new life. However, the Bible does not describe other things in their lives. The only thing that the Bible remembers is that they have been scattered throughout many places ... and have lived a life of preaching the gospel.

Everyone, 21st Century in 2018, how can you summarize your life in Pennsylvania?

How does God remember our lives?  Do you think God saw you as worked hard ... was busy with something ... lived busy ... do not know what you were doing ... really did not live ... will he do that?

Do you know why the Bible had recorded in the life of the scattered Jerusalem Church members? There would have been many words to explain their life at the time. In the midst of hardship and persecution, some would have lost their families, some would have lost property, some would have been imprisoned, others would have been tortured, and others would have been misled and pointed out. The question is, then, what kind of life did they actually live. When the world made them hard and the world twisted and distorted their lives, they lived only as  evangelist. Despite suffering, persecution, and despair, dismay, sorrow, and tears, they wanted only the gospel to be revealed in their lives. The Bible says that they did so.

And the Bible exemplifies one of them. He was one of the seven deacons called Philip. The Bible summarizes what he did and the reactions of those who met him. " ⁵ Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. ⁶ When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. (Acts 8: 5-6) Do you want to distinguish verbs from Samaria? What did Philip do and how do people react? Philip 'goes down' and 'preaches'. The Samaritans 'hear, see and follow'. If you and I were Philip, which verb would explain our lives? What did we go first to evacuate to an area that was exclusive to Jerusalem called Samaria? Whether he is begging for food, living in the house, or going to the market and doing business on the stool, Philip goes down to Samaria, following the guidance of God. 

So what did the Samaritans do? He listened and began to follow Philip. What part of Philip did they follow? It is faith. The Gospel. It is also a life of preaching the gospel. They do not give up or fall in any circumstance or environment, do not give up or fall, and do not excuse or avoid .... They begin to COPY 'Philip' to reveal the gospel of God's Kingdom and the crucifixion into his life. That is a way for the modern church to go. The church must be the way the world must follow. The church members must be mirrors to be imitated by their neighbors. God's people must be the answer to the problem of the world's suffering.

The last thing we should pay attention to in the text of today is the verse 8. "There was great joy in the city" (Acts 8: 8). How does 8: 1 begin? Stephen's death. Big sad and suffering came. They were separated, lost, scattered and persecuted. But what is the result? Through them, life is alive. What do you say in verse 7? "  For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed." (Acts 8: 7). God's creative order is restored. The people of God who encountered suffering and persecution, they did not root out their lives in the realities of suffering and persecution, but they gave their roots to the gospel and the Holy Spirit which became the reason. It is a bold proof that suffering and persecution are not the keys of their lives, that it can not shake them, that the Lord of their lives is only God, the gospel, and the cross. They showed the gospel via lips and via their lives. The result is the "great joy" of Samaria. It began with martyrdom and tears, suffering and persecution, pain and sorrow, and but then it appears with great joy. The great sadness they have been experiencing has been the great joy of the world when they met with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the teachings of the gospel. This is the view of missionary saints and churches. 

Everyone! Was last week hard? We live in a world where everything is happening.  Everything that couldn’t imagine is happening... becomes reality. But, gentlemen, can our reality compares to first century church members? Are we worse than life of colonialism for 400 years and do not know how long they will continue? Do you lose loved ones and friends, lose family and relatives, and lose their homes and hometowns? Will you be the ones who had to live a routine that deprives everything for their faith and threatens their freedom? By the way, when we look at the today’s words, they create the great joy of the world. What kind of equations are hidden in their lives, and the realities of suffering have been put in place, and could life of great joy and power have appeared? The Bible says it is a cross planted in them. When the gospel of the cross was in them, the suffering was put into their lives, but the grace of the cross appeared, and the whole city had great joy. The Bible calls their lives missionary, calls them missionary saints, and calls their church a missionary church. God calls us today as a missionary church where missionary members who live a missionary life come together. We bless you in the name of the Lord that we are challenged by the Word today and that if the reality of this world passes through us, it can be witnessed with the great joy of the kingdom of God. God, the Creator and Redeemer, is with us
