2017년의 성탄절입니다. 우리 모두 서로에게 인사해볼까요? Merry Christmas! 평강의 주로 찾아오신 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 화평케 하심이 모든 성도들과 가정과 교회 위에 충만하게 함께 하기를 축복합니다.

 

It's Christmas in 2017. Shall we all greet each other? Merry Christmas! Bless the congregation, families, and church with our Lord Jesus Christ, who has come as the Lord of Peace. 

 

어제 저의 어릴 적 성탄절에 대한 추억을 함께 나눴습니다. 각 가정에서 자녀들과 성탄절에 대한 좋은 추억들을 많이 만드시면 좋겠습니다. 물론 승하에게 제일 중요한 것은 산타가 과연 실제로 있는가 하는 것과 그것보다 더 중요한 것은 엄마아빠가 산타인 척 하고 선물을 제대로 준비해 줄 것인가 하는 것입니다. 거리 곳곳이 등불로 반짝이고 캐롤송이 넘쳐나고 돈을 써야 제대로 즐길 수 있을 것 같은 21세기의 성탄절에... 우리 자신과 자녀들이 하나님의 우리를 향한 은혜와 사랑을, 아기의 모습으로 우리를 찾아오신 예수님의 낮아지심을, 성령 하나님의 함께 하심과 동행하심을 제대로 기억하는 좋은 시간이 되면 좋겠습니다.

 

Yesterday I shared memories of my childhood Christmas. I would like you to make a lot of good memories with your children in your home. Of course, the most important thing for my daughter is whether or not Santa is really there, and what is more important than that is whether me or my wife will pretend to me Santa and prepare the gift properly. In the 21st century Christmas, where everywhere in the streets are sparkling with lamps, Christmas Carols playing over and over again, and need to spend money to enjoy it ... Ourselves and our children should remember that God provided grace and love for us and remember that Jesus lowered himself and came to us and remember that Holy Spirit is with us.

 

 

1. 겨울나무로 살기

 

2,3 주 전에 눈이 온 적이 있었지요? 저희 동네에는 여름이 되면 참 무성하고 아름다운 숲인데... 겨울이 되자 잎이 다 떨어지고 눈까지 오고보니... 아주 초라하고 볼품없게 변하는 숲이 있습니다. 지난 번 눈이 오고 난 다음 그 숲을 보다가 문득 이런 생각이 들었습니다. 저 숲은.... 살아 있을까? 죽었을까....? 저 나무들 참 힘이 들겠네... 뭐 이런 생각입니다. 차를 세우고 사진을 몇 장 찍었고.... 그리고 집에 와서 책상에 앉았습니다.(사진 1)

 

Have you been snowing a few weeks ago? In our neighborhood, it is a beautiful forest when it is summer. When it is winter, all the leaves are falling, and when the snow came, the forest became very shabby and bare. After the last snowfall, I saw the forest and it suddenly dawned on me. Is that forest.... alive? Or dead? Those trees must be very tired.  I stopped my car, took some pictures, and then came home and sat down at the desk. (Photo 1)

 

 

아시다시피 저는 다양한 사람들을 만납니다. 요즘 다들 인생이 그리 즐겁지는 않으신 모양입니다. 저기 사진에 겨울나무처럼 사는 것 같습니다. 겨울에도 푸른 나무들이 있지 않습니까? 눈이 가지에 쌓이면 초록과 흰색의 조화가 멋있는 나무들이 있습니다. 하지만 저 숲의 나무들은 추워 보이고 힘들어보였습니다. 꼭 우리들 모습 같다는 생각을 했습니다. 어둡고 추운 세상을 살면서 좀 당당하고 멋있으면 좋겠는데... 우리의 삶의 현실은 초라하고 힘들게 보이기도 합니다. 이런 생각을 하다가 시를 써봤습니다. 제목은 ‘겨울나무로 살기’입니다.

 

As you know, I meet various people. Everyone seems to be not so happy these days. Looks like they are living like the winter trees as in the picture.  Aren’t there green trees in winter? If the snow accumulates on the branches of green trees, they look beautiful with combination of green and white. But the trees without leaves in that forest looked cold and weak.  I thought that they were like us. I wish I could be a little more dignified living in this dark and cold world... The reality of our life seems to be poor and difficult. I wrote some poetry while thinking about this. The title is 'to live as a winter tree'.

 

겨울나무로 살기

나무 사이 찬바람에

살짝 몸 흔들어주기

쌓인 눈

녹기까지 기다리기

야윈 가지 얼음 꽃도

봄을 더욱 그리워하기

 

Living with winter trees

On the cold wind between trees

Shake your body slightly

Snow accumulating

Waiting to melt

Wean branches ice flowers

Wanting for Spring

 

 

끝나지 않았다고 생각하기

잎과 꽃은 떨어져서 땅을 덮고

뿌리는 봄을 찾고 있으므로

차가운 거절의 땅을 지나

더 깊이 숨은 봄

수만 갈레 손을 뻗어 당기고 있으므로

흐드러지게 꽃피는

봄날만 생각하기

 

Thing that it’s not over

Leaves and flowers fall and cover the ground.

The roots are looking for spring

Past the land of cold

Deeper hidden Spring

Because tens of thousands of hands stretched out

Shaking and Blossoming

Think Spring Day

 

그래서,

겨울나무로 살기

절망 없는 삶을 살기

봄은 겨울나무의 뿌리 끝에서 시작되고

삶은 보이지 않는 곳에서 새롭게 출발하고

희망은 그리움으로 이어가기

바람 부는 들판에도

우리

웃음 지으며 살기

 

so,

Living as winter trees

Living without desperate life

Spring begins at the root of the winter tree

Life starts out away from sight

Hope changes to longing

On the windy fields

Us

Laugh and live

 

2. 겨울에 봄을 사는 사람들

 

이 시의 메인 아이디어는 ‘뿌리’에 있습니다. 상상력을 발휘해 보십시오. 하늘이 얼어붙고 찬바람이 씽씽 붑니다. 눈이 내렸습니다. 가지가 얼었습니다. 그런데 나무는 그런 계절이 올 것을 미리 알았습니다. 나무는 땅에 집중했습니다. 봄과 여름동안 가지가 만든 잎과 꽃을 땅에다 뿌립니다. 그 땅에 나무가 뿌리내리고 있기 때문입니다. 뿌리는 추울수록 더 깊이 내려갑니다. 봄이 아직 땅 속 깊이 묻혀 있습니다.

The main idea of this poem is in the root. Try your imagination. The sky freezes and the cold winds blowing across. The snow fell. The branches froze. But the tree knew ahead of time that such a season would come. The trees are concentrated on the ground. The trees make the leaves and flowers fall to the ground.  It is because the trees are rooted in the ground. The colder the temperature, the deeper it goes down. Spring is still buried deep in the ground.

 

나무는 땅 속 깊이 숨어버린 봄을 끌어내기 위해서 수천수만의 뿌리, 손길을 만들어서 더 깊은 곳으로 들어갑니다. 기어이 봄을 끌어올려서 싹을 틔우고 꽃을 피웁니다. 나무는 그렇게 겨울 동안에 봄을 붙들고 살고 있습니다. 저는 우리 성도들도 겨울을 지나지만 나무처럼 뿌리를 뻗어 봄을 붙들고 살면 좋겠습니다.

 

The trees make deep roots, and go deeper in order to pull out the spring that is hidden deep in the ground. Eventually it pulls up the spring to make buds and flowers. The tree is holding on to the spring like that during the winter. I want my congregation to live like that by spreading their root like the trees to hold spring as they pass through the winter.

 

가지 사이 찬바람이 불면 살짝 몸을 흔들어주고, 야윈 가지에 눈이 쌓이면 녹겠지... 기다려주고, 혹시 얼음꽃이 피면 꽃이 피었네... 봄이 오겠네... 여유가 있으면 좋겠습니다.

If the cold wind blows between the branches, shake branches lightly. If you have snow on the weak branches, wait till it melts... If there ice flowers, think that real flowers will bloom soon thinking that Spring will come.

 

믿음으로 사는 일에 절망하지 않기로, 말씀을 붙들고 사는 일에 패배하지 않기로 결단하면 좋겠습니다. 비록 지금 우리의 삶에 힘들고 어려워도 하나님의 나라는 이미 시작되었고, 우리 삶의 뿌리를 붙들고 있고, 하나님의 때가 되면 꽃 피고 열매 맺는 봄이 올테니까... 서로 격려하면서 웃음 짓는 성도들이 되면 좋겠습니다.

 

Please do not be despair of living by faith, do not be defeated in holding and living the Word. Even though our lives are hard and difficult now, know that the Kingdom of God has already begun; we are holding on to the roots of our lives, and when there’s God’s time, we will bloom and bear fruit. Let’s all encourage each other and smile at each other.

 

3. 룻기, 겨울의 시대에 봄을 사는 사람의 이야기

 

오늘 우리가 읽은 룻기라는 성경은 예수님이 오시기 약 1100년 전에 있었던 일을 기록하고 있습니다. 룻기의 내용을 잠시 소개하면 다음과 같습니다.

 

The Bible, Ruth, which we read today, records what happened about 1100 years before Jesus came. Here is a brief introduction of the contents of Ruth.

 

 

유대땅 베들레헴에 엘리멜렉이라는 사람이 살았습니다. 그에게는 나오미라는 아내와 두 아들이 있었습니다. 유대땅에 흉년이 들자 엘리멜렉은 모압으로 이사를 갑니다. 그런데 그곳에서 그는 죽고 맙니다. 결혼한 두 아들도 차례로 죽습니다. 나오미는 죽음을 결심합니다. 베들레헴으로 돌아가겠다고 말합니다. 여인 혼자서 모압 광야를 지나 유대광야를 넘어서 베들레헴으로 가는 것, 자살행위나 마찬가지입니다. 들짐승이 득실대고, 강도가 우글댑니다. 그런데 며느리 룻이 나오미와 동행하겠다고 말합니다. “어머니의 나라가 내 나라가 되고 어머니의 하나님은 내 하나님이 됩니다.”라는 유명한 고백을 합니다. 모압 여인이 베들레헴까지 따라오는 것은 무리한 일입니다. 위험을 감수해야 하고, 삶을 희생해야 합니다. 그런데 룻은 그 일을 했습니다.

A man named Elimelek lived in Bethlehem in the land of Judah. He had a wife, Naomi, and two sons. When a famine broke out in the land of Judea, Elimelek moved to Moab. But there he dies. Two married sons died also. Naomi wanted to die. She wanted to return to Bethlehem. For a woman to go alone through the wilderness of Moab to Bethlehem is basically a suicide. There are wild beasts, and robbers could attack.  However, her daughter-in-law, Ruth, will accompany Naomi. She makes a famous confession: "The kingdom of my mother will be my kingdom,you’re your God will be my God." It is unreasonable for a Moabite woman to follow Bethlehem. You have to take risks and sacrifice your life. But Ruth did it.

 

한편, 하나님은 이스라엘 백성들을 애굽에서 구원하시면서 다양한 법을 만들어주셨습니다. 그 중 하나가 남편, 혹은 아버지를 먼저 잃은 연약한 여성을 보호하는 법이었습니다. 각 종족과 가족에게 땅을 분배했기 때문에 남편이나 아버지, 즉 가장을 잃으면 보호받아야 할 남은 가족을 땅과 함께 가장 가까운 친척에게 책임지우는 법입니다. 그렇게 하지 않으면 아직 사회 안전장치가 마련되지 않은 상태에서 폭력적인 방식으로 빼앗고 죽이는 일이 있을 것이기 때문입니다. 문제는 남편과 아들, 시아버지와 남편을 잃은 나오미와 룻은 보호받아야 하지만 재산은 없었다는 겁니다. 책임은 지되 이익은 없고, 오히려 상속까지 해야 하는 손해를 볼 수 있습니다. 아무도 자원해서 그들을 보호하려 하지 않습니다. 이스라엘 전체가 자신의 이익만을 생각하고, 하나님이 정하신 법으로 살려하지 않았습니다. 이웃의 삶에 불어 닥친 겨울의 찬바람을 막아주지 않습니다. 오직 자신의 유익만을 찾았습니다.

 

On the other hand, God saved the Israelites from Egypt and made various laws. One of them was to protect a weak woman who had lost her husband or father first. Because they have distributed the land to each family, it is the responsibility of the remaining family or nearest relative to protect the widow.  Since there’s was no social program, if they do not do this, there will be a violent way of robbing and killing them. The problem is that Naomi and Ruth, who lost husband and son, father-in-law and husband, had to be protected but they had no property. No one would volunteers to protect them. The whole of Israel thought only of his own interests, and did not live by the law God had given. It does not prevent the cold winds of winter blowing in the lives of them. They looked for their own benefits.

 

바로 그때 성경은 보아스라는 한 사람을 주목합니다. 그는 엘리멜렉의 친족이었습니다. 보아스는 이 두 여인이 하나님의 말씀과 율법을 따라 보호받아야 한다고 생각합니다. 자기보다 가까운 친족에게 묻습니다. “당신이 이 두 여인을 보호하시겠습니까?” 가까운 친족은 손해보지 않으려 합니다. 거절합니다. 보아스는 자신이 두 여인을 책임지기로 선언합니다. 룻을 아내로 맞이합니다. 그들은 베레스라는 아들을 낳습니다. 룻기 4장 18-22절은 보아스의 족보를 간략하게 소개합니다.

Just then, the Bible focuses on a person named Boaz. He was a relative of Elimelek. Boaz thinks that these two women should be protected according to God's Word and Law. Ask your nearest kin. "Do you want to protect these two women?" The close relatives do not want to lose anything. They refused. Boas declares himself to be responsible for both women. I welcome Ruth as his wife. They have a son named Perez. Ruth 4: 18-22 briefly introduces the genealogy of Boaz.

 

이 족보는 마태복음 1장과 만납니다. 5절을 보시면 이 이야기가 기록되어 있습니다. 보아스는 룻에게서 오벳을 낳았습니다. 그리고 16절에 “야곱은 마리아의 남편 요셉을 낳았으니 마리아에게서 그리스도라 칭하는 예수가 나시니라”라고 했습니다. 아주 중요한 순간입니다. 룻기와 마태복음이 만나는 순간이며, 구약과 신약이 만나는 순간이며, 각자 자기 소견에 옳은 대로 살고 이기심과 욕심으로 살던 시대에 하나님의 뜻대로 살기를 원했던 사람들이 말씀 안에서 예언된 메시야를 만나는 순간입니다. 겨울을 사는 사람들이 어떻게 말씀과 진리로 봄을 살 수 있는지를 보여주고 있습니다.

 

This genealogy shows up in Matthew 1. This story is recorded in verse 5. Boaz and Ruth gave birth to Obed. And verse 16 says, " and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.” It's a very important moment. It is the moment when Ruth and Matthew meet, the moment when the Old Testament and the New Testament meet, and the people who wanted to live according to God's will in an age of selfish living and selfishness. It shows how people who live in winter can live spring with the Word and truth.

 

 

4. 봄의 길이 되는 사람

 

같은 시대에 다른 삶을 사는 사람들이 보이지 않습니까? 룻기의 시대는 겨울의 시대입니다. 나오미의 가족이 그랬습니다. 흉년이 들어 모압으로 갔지만 더 혹독한 겨울을 맞이합니다. 절망 밖에 남은 것이 없습니다. 그런데 그녀에게 봄이 되는 한 사람이 있습니다. 나오미에게서 하나님을 믿는 믿음을 배운 룻이었습니다. 그들이 함께 베들레헴으로 왔습니다. 하나님을 믿는다면 룻처럼 해야 합니다. 하지만 당시 이스라엘은 영적인 암흑기였습니다. 믿음은 있지만 자기 소견에 옳은 대로 살았습니다.

Do see that different people live different lives in the same time period? Naomi’s family is like that.  They went to Moab but the Moab had famine, but the winter grew more severe. There is nothing left to despair. But there is one person who becomes her spring. It was Ruth who learned from Naomi the faith in God. They came to Bethlehem together. If you believe in God, you have to be like Ruth. But Israel was a spiritual dark age at the time. They have faith but have lived according to their own thought. .

 

하나님의 법과 질서는 무시되고 자신의 이익과 욕심이 앞섰습니다. 이때 성경은 두 사람의 삶을 대조합니다. 한 사람은 엘리멜렉의 집에 가까운 친족입니다. 다른 한 사람을 보아스입니다. 친족은 시대를 따라 삽니다. 겨울의 시대, 그의 마음에도 겨울이 들어와 있습니다. 그는 이스라엘 백성이요 하나님을 믿는다고 생각했지만 하나님의 약속을 따를 생각이 없습니다. 책임지기 싫고 손해보기 싫습니다. 그러나 보아스는 그렇지 않습니다. 그에게는 믿음이 있고 하나님이 정하신 법이 있었습니다. 그 시대를 강타한 겨울을 이길 수 있는 봄의 마음, 믿음과 율법으로 살고자 하는 결심이 있었습니다. 보아스는 나오미의 가정을 책임집니다. 친족의 삶에 닥친 겨울을 하나님의 말씀과 법으로 이깁니다. 그 결과는 무엇입니까? 두 사람은 메시야가 오기 1100년 전에 이미 메시야를 말씀을 통해서 만나고 있습니다. 그들은 어둡고 추운 시대에 서로의 삶에서 복음의 빛을 발견합니다. 천생연분입니다.

 

God's law and order are ignored and they put their own interests and greed first. The Bible contrasts the lives of the two. One is a close relative to Elimelek’s. The other one is Boas. The kin live like in the times. In the age of winter, winter also comes into their head. They thought that they were an Israelite and believed in God, but they had no intention of following God's promises. They hate to be responsible and they do not want to lose. But Boaz does not. He had faith, and God had a law. Boas is responsible for Naomi's family. He wins the winter in the life by the word of God and the law. What is the result? They are already meeting the Messiah by word of God 1100 years before the coming of the Messiah. They find the light of the gospel in each other's lives in a dark, cold time.

 

 

 

어둡고 추운 겨울의 시대를 삽니다. 우리는 어떤 사람입니까? 시대보다 더 춥고 어두운 마음으로 삽니까? 아무리 추워도 삶 깊은 곳에 봄의 소망을 품고 삽니까? 허락하신 믿음으로 겨울을 이기며 삽니까? 마음에서부터 겨울의 삭풍이 부는 사람으로 삽니까? 성경이 우리에게 보아스와 룻을 보여주는 이유는 겨울이 지배하는 차가운 세상에서 어떻게 믿음으로 사는지, 어떻게 말씀으로 사는지... 나아가서 어떻게 메시야를 만나며 사는지를 보여주기 위해서입니다.

 

We live in a dark, cold winter season. Who are we? Do you live with colder and darker hearts than others? Even though it is cold, do you live with the hope of spring deep in your life? Do you live by winning the winter with your permission? Do you live from the heart to the person who blows the winds of winter? The reason the Bible shows us Boaz and Ruth is how to live by faith in a cold, winter-dominated world, how to live by the Word ... and how to meet and live with the Messiah.

 

 

 

오늘은 성탄절입니다. 우리를 위해 이 땅에 내려오시고 구원과 생명의 길이 되신 예수님과의 만남을 감사하고 축복하는 날입니다. 주님은 십자가를 지심으로 우리에게 진리와 구원의 봄 길이 되어주셨습니다. 룻기의 시대, 보아스와 나오미가 보여준 겨울을 이기는 삶은 1100년이 지나 예수님을 만났고, 그리고 2000년이 지나 오늘 우리를 만나고 있습니다. 모든 사람이 자신의 이익과 만족을 위해 겨울을 선택할 때... 우리는 말씀을 따라 살아갈 수 있을까요? 예수 그리스도를 따라 생명과 진리의 길을 걸을 수 있을까요? 모두가 겨울을 살 때 우리가 예수로 말미암는 생명 넘치는 봄이 되고, 봄 길이 될 수 있을까요? 룻이 나오미에게 그랬던 것처럼, 보아스가 룻에게 그랬던 것처럼, 예수님이 우리에게 그랬던 것처럼 말입니다.

 

Today is Christmas. It is a day of thanking and blessing the encounter with Jesus who came down to us for this purpose and the way of salvation and life. The Lord has given us the way of truth and salvation through the cross. In the days of Ruth, Boas and Naomi showed a life of overcoming the winter of 1100 years ago and met with Jesus, and two thousand years later they meet us today. When everyone chooses winter for their own interests and satisfaction ... Can we live the Word? Can we walk the path of life and truth according to Jesus Christ? Can we all become a spring full of life through Jesus when we live in winter? As Ruth did to Naomi, as Boaz did to Ruth, as Jesus did to us.

 

 

 

마지막으로 ‘봄 길’이라는 아주 잘 쓴 시를 여러분께 선물하고 설교를 마칩니다.

 

Finally, I give you a very good poem called "The Way of the Spring," and finish the sermon.

 

 

길이 끝나는 곳에서도 길이 있다

길이 끝나는 곳에서도 길이 되는 사람이 있다

스스로 봄 길이 되어 끝없이 걸어가는 사람이 있다

 

There is a road where the road ends.

There is a person who has a way in the end of the road

There are people who walk on their own and endlessly walk to Spring

 

 

 

강물은 흐르다가 멈추고 새들은 날아가 돌아오지 않고

하늘과 땅 사이의 모든 꽃잎이 흩어져도

보라, 사랑이 끝난 곳에서도 사랑으로 남아 있는 사람이 있다.

스스로 사랑이 되어

한없이 봄 길을 걸어가는 사람이 있다.

 

The river flows and stops and the birds do not fly back

Even though all the petals between the sky and the ground are scattered

Behold, there is a man who remains in love where love ends.

Become a love

There is a person walking on a spring road without limit.
