혹시 ‘부탄’이라는 나라를 아십니까? 부탄가스는 잘 알아도 부탄이라는 나라를 아는 분은 그리 많지 않을 겁니다. 아직 세계 역사에 일정한 역할을 하는 국가는 아닙니다. 하지만 이 나라가 갑자기 유명해진 적이 있습니다. 2010년의 일입니다. 유럽 신경제재단(NEF)라는 단체에서 각 나라의 행복지수를 조사한 일이 있습니다. 놀랍게도 이름조차 알지 못하는, 세계 최빈국 중 하나인 부탄이 1위를 했습니다. 국민의 97%가 자신은 행복한 삶을 살고 있다고 말했습니다.

부탄이라는 나라를 이해하는 가장 중요한 요소는 ‘불교’입니다. 그들은 윤회를 믿습니다. 1인당 국민소득이 2000달러가 안 되는데도 경제개발보다는 자연과의 공존을 선택합니다. 국가 재정은 크게 두 부분의 의존하는데 하나는 히말라야산맥을 이용한 수력발전이고 다른 하나는 관광 수입입니다. 그런데 관광객을 늘리기보다 환경과 관광의 질을 먼저 생각하기 때문에 외국 항공노선도 4개에 불과합니다. 이 나라는 걸인과 담배와 교통 신호등이 없습니다. 대신 무상 의료가 있고, 무상 교육이 있고, 전 국민에게 주택이 보급됩니다. 눈이 오면 풍년이 온다고 여기기 때문에 첫눈이 내리면 국가 전체가 공휴일로 즐깁니다. 이 나라는 국민 총생산(GDP)이 아닌 국민총행복(GNH;Gross National Happiness)의 개념을 도입했는데요, 이 개념을 도입했던 ‘지그메 싱기에 왕추크’라는 왕은 2006년 자신의 행복추구를 위해 왕권을 버리고 은퇴를 하는 이상한 나라이기도 합니다.

그런데 2016년, 같은 단체에서 조사한 행복지수 조사에서 부탄은 56위가 됩니다. 자살률은 20위권으로 올라갑니다. 행복하던 사람들에게 갑자기 대단한 불행이 닥쳤을까요? 아닙니다. 부탄 국민들, 특히 청년들이 자신들을 행복하지 않다고 여기게 된 가장 중요한 계기는 바로 ‘스마트 폰’입니다. 인터넷은 그들의 눈과 마음을 넓은 세상으로 인도했습니다. 부탄의 청년들은 보다 나은 미래와 자아실현에 대해 고민하게 되었습니다. 부모들은 죽어서 다시 자연의 일부로 태어날 것이기 때문에 현실에 안주하고 만족하면서 살았는데 자녀들은 부모의 세대와는 다른 시선으로 자신들의 삶을 바라보게 되었습니다. 참고로 말씀드리면 2017년 UN에서 조사한 국가별 행복지수에 의하면 한국은 56위, 부탄은 97위입니다. 행복이란 참으로 주관적이지 않습니까?

그렇다면 여러분! 우리는 얼마나 행복하게 살고 있을까요? 미국에 살고 있는 한인 이민자들, 세상 속에서 성도와 교회라는 이름으로 살고 있는 우리들... 행복하십니까? 요즘 성도 보통씨에 대해 말씀을 나누면서.... 설교의 내용이 좀 hard한 것 같아서요, 설교를 듣기에 좀 힘이 드신가 하는 걱정을 하고 있습니다. 그래서 오늘은 우리들에게 가장 익숙하고 편한 ‘복’에 대한 말씀을 나누려고 합니다. 그런데 생각해보니 익숙한 주제이긴 합니다만... 역시 좀 ‘불편한’ 마음으로 말씀을 나눌 수밖에 없는 것 같습니다. 익숙한 이야기를 불편하게.... 나누겠습니다.

1. 복의 내용이 다릅니다.

구약 성경에서 우리는 자주 축복하는 장면을 만납니다. 노아가 그랬고, 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱이 그랬습니다. 영적인 권위가 인정되는 어떤 사람이 자녀나 후손을 위해서 하나님께 복을 비는 것은 그들의 삶에 큰 의미가 있었습니다. 오늘 본문에서도 모세는 자신의 죽음을 예감하면서 이스라엘 각 지파를 축복합니다. 그들은 모세로부터 어떤 축복을 원했을까요? 각 지파는 모세의 축복을 즐거워했을까요? 이삭의 두 아들, 야곱과 에서는 아버지의 축복에 매우 민감했습니다. 그대로 이루어진다고 믿었기 때문입니다. 에서는 자신이 받아야 할 복을 빼앗기고 남은 축복은 없냐고 울부짖었고, 빼앗긴 복에 대한 분노를 야곱에게 쏟기도 했습니다. 모세의 축복 또한 그랬을 것입니다. 각 지파는 귀를 기울이고 마음을 열어서 복을 사모했습니다.

오늘 선포되는 복의 내용을 봅시다. 신 33:1 에 “하나님의 사람 모세가 죽기 전에 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 축복함이 이러하였더라”라고 했습니다. 3절에 “여호와께서 백성을 사랑하시나니 모든 성도가 그의 수중에 있으며 주의 발 아래에 앉아서 주의 말씀을 받는도다”라고 했습니다. 자, 하나님은 그의 백성 이스라엘의 각 지파에게 어떤 복을 주실까요?

4절부터 25절까지 선포된 복은 각 지파에 따라 다릅니다. 어떤 지파는 마음에 들지 않을 수 있습니다. 어... 저 복이 더 좋은데.... 나도 저렇게 되고 싶은데... 라고 생각할 수 있습니다. 예를 들어 장자인 르우벤의 복을 보십시오. “르우벤은 죽지 않고 살기를 원하며 그 사람 수가 적지 않기를 원하나이다”(신 33:6) 르우벤 지파가 이 축복을 듣고 기분이 어떨까요? 그 다음 유다 지파에 선포된 복을 들으면 더 마음이 안좋을 수도 있습니다. 유다지파에는 전쟁에 승리하는 복을 주십니다.(33:7) 레위지파는 제사장의 업무에 충실하도록 물질적인 풍요와 영적인 권위를 허락하십니다.(33:8-11) 벤냐민 지파는 강한 지파들 사이에서 보호를 받으라고 축복합니다.(33;12) 요셉 지파는 13절부터 17절까지 아예 복을 끌어 퍼붓습니다. 그런데 17절 하반절에 걸리는 것이 있습니다. “이것으로 민족들을 받아 땅 끝까지 이르리니 곧 에브라임의 자손은 만만이요 므낫세의 자손은 천천이리로다”(33:13-17) 요셉의 두 아들은 각각 다른 복을 받습니다. 차남인 에브라임의 자손은 만만이요, 장남인 므낫세의 자손은 천천이라고 합니다. 므낫세 족속은 어떤 생각이 들까요? 18절에서 스불론은 밖으로 나가는 복을, 잇사갈은 장막에 있는 복을 받는다고 했습니다. 어느 것이 좋은 복일까요? 갓 지파는 싸움을 잘하는 복을 받습니다. 단은 ‘사자의 새끼로다’라고 합니다. 이게 좋은 건지 나쁜 건지 모르겠습니다. 납달리는 하나님의 은혜와 복이 가득합니다. 아셀은 많은 복을 받아 풍요롭게 살 것입니다. 모세는 이렇게 이스라엘 각 지파에 대해 축복했습니다. 모세는 각 지파를 다르게 축복했습니다. 그들은 어떤 복은 좋아 보이고 어떤 복은 좀 애매하고 어떤 복음 좀 곤란하기도 합니다. 여러분이라면 어떤 지파의 축복을 받고 싶으십니까? 만일 여러분이 원하는 것을 얻지 못했다면 어떤 생각이 들까요?

2. 소원이 복은 아닙니다.

여기서 우리가 중요하게 확인해야 할 것이 하나 있습니다. 조금 구별할 필요가 있습니다. 여러분, 우리는 하나님께 복을 비는 것일까요? 소원을 비는 것일까요? 복주시기를 기도하고 있을까요? 우리의 소원을 이뤄주시기를 기도하고 있을까요? 하나님이 주시는 복과 우리의 마음을 차지하고 있는 소원은.... 같을까요? 다를까요? 바로 여기에 문제가 생깁니다. 이스라엘 백성들도, 여러 지파들도, 예수님의 제자들도, 초대교회도, 그리고 오늘날 우리들에게도 같은 문제가 있습니다. 우리는 쉽게 하나님이 허락하시는 복과 우리의 소원을 혼동합니다. 우리는 내 소원이 만족되는 것을 복이라고 생각합니다.

내 마음의 소원, 하나님이 주시는 복 - 이 둘의 질서가 혼란에 빠져서 삶의 질서를 잃어버린 사람들이 많습니다. 예를 들어 삼손에게 놀라운 힘을 주신 것은 복입니다. 그런데 그에게는 마음의 소원이 있었습니다. 그는 소원을 따라 살다가 복을 잃습니다. 이스라엘에게 가나안 땅을 주신 것 역시 복입니다. 그런데 그들은 더 큰 만족을 찾습니다. 소원을 만족하게 하기 위해서 그들은 우상을 섬깁니다. 한국 교회가 무너지는 이유가 여기에 있습니다. 우리가 하늘에서 내려오는 복으로 기도하지 않습니다. 우리의 마음의 소원으로 기도합니다. 내면의 질서가 흔들립니다. 성도로서의 삶의 질서가 무너집니다. 더 큰 교회당, 더 많은 재정, 더 성공한 사람들이 가득한... 하나님의 영광과 기쁨이 없는 교회들이 곳곳에 생겼습니다.

3. 하나님의 복에는 목적이 있습니다.

그렇다면 복과 소원의 차이는 무엇일까요? 다시 삼손에 대해서 생각해 봅시다. 삼손에게 큰 힘을 주신 것은 복입니다. 왜 그런 복을 주셨을까요? 하나님이 목적이 있습니다. 삼손의 힘은 하나님의 나라와 뜻을 위해 사용되어야 합니다. 하나님이 주시는 모든 복에는 합당한 목적이 있습니다. 아브라함에게 복을 주신 것도, 그 후손에게 복을 계승하게 하신 것도 목적이 있씁니다. 이스라엘에게 가나안이라는 복을 주신 것도 목적이 있습니다. 욥을 부자되게 하신 것도 목적이 있습니다. 그의 질병에도 목적이 있고, 그가 나음을 입은 것도 하나님의 목적이 숨어 있습니다. 제자들에게 성령을 부어주시는 것도 목적이 있습니다. 교회에 은혜를 부어주시는 것도 하나님의 목적이 있습니다. 오늘 우리들에게 은혜와 복을 허락하신 것도 하나님의 목적이 있습니다. 성도와 교회가 누리는 가장 큰 복이 무엇인지 아시겠습니까? 우리가 사람의 세상을 살면서 하나님의 나라와 뜻을 이루는데 내 삶을, 내가 받은 은사와 복을 사용하는 것입니다. 교회와 성도가 이 땅에서 일하시는 하나님의 손이 되고 발이 되고 심장이 되는 것입니다.

그래서 모세는 모든 지파에게 각각 다른 복을 기원합니다. 하나님께서 그들을 통해서 일하실 것이기 때문에, 각각 다른 은사와 복으로 하나님의 같은 목적을 이룰 것이기 때문입니다. 그들이 같은 복, 같은 은사만 받았다면... 교회는 하나님의 풍성하고 온전하신 성품과 뜻을 세상 가운데 전할 수 없습니다. 각각 다른 은사와 복으로 세상에서 같은 하나님의 나라와 같은 하나님의 뜻을 증거하게 됩니다. 그래서 이스라엘의 모든 지파는 불평할 수 없습니다. 사람의 눈에는 더 나은 것, 더 편한 것, 더 많은 것이 있을 수 있지만 그 모든 복은 ‘하나님의 나라와 뜻’이라는 목적을 향하는 다양한 길이자 방법이기 때문입니다.

다만 우리가 그 차이에 대해 해야 할 일이 있습니다. 모든 차이는 섬김을 위한 것임을 잊지 말아야 합니다. 초대교회에 하나님이 주시는 은사를 설명할 때 하나님은 사도 바울을 통해서 함께 세워져가는 교회에 대해 말씀하셨습니다. 함께 세워져가는 교회의 핵심은 각각 받은 은사를 통한 협력입니다. 각자의 은사로 서로를 섬기게 하셨습니다. 다른 사람, 교회, 나라가 가지지 못한 나의 넘치는 은혜와 복이 있다면 그것은 나의 자랑과 누림에 초점이 있는 것이 아니라는 말입니다. 그것은 섬김과 나눔에 목적이 있습니다. 섬김과 나눔을 통해서 하나님의 공평케하시는 은혜가 교회와 관계 속에 넘치게 됩니다. 모세의 시대, 각각 다른 축복을 받는 이스라엘 공동체가 그러하고, 오늘날 소원과 욕망이 넘치는 시대에 살아가는 교회 공동체가 그러합니다. 내가 받은 넘치는 은혜는 그 주권이 하나님께 있고... 그리고 부족한 이웃에게 있음을 기억합시다.

4. 당신은 행복한 사람입니다.

한 때 세계에서 가장 행복한 국민으로 화제가 되었던 부탄, 그러나 그들에게 스마트폰만 들어가도... 인터넷만 보급이 되어도.... 100등으로 미끌어집니다. 그들의 행복은 참으로 주관적이었습니다. 그들은 다른 나라의 풍요와 영광을 보면서... 화려한 세상을 접하면서 마음 깊은 곳에서부터 색색깔의 소원들이 뿌리를 내리게 되고, 그들의 소원은 그들의 마음을 불행으로 이끌었습니다. 한 때 한국의 방방곡곡에 울려퍼진 노래가 있습니다. ‘아, 대한민국’이라는 노래입니다. 가사를 기억하십니까? 하늘엔 조각구름 떠있고, 강물엔 유람선이 떠있고, 저마다 누려야 할 행복이 언제나 자유로운 곳.... 원하는 것은 무엇이든 얻을 수 있고 뜻하는 것은 무엇이건 될 수가 있어...“ 약 30년 전의 노래입니다. 그때보다 대한민국은 비교할 수 없이 잘 살고 화려하지만 청년들은 우리나라를 ‘헬조선’이라 부릅니다. 물론 어르신들은 ‘배가 불러서!’라고 말씀하실 수 있습니다. 그렇다면 배가 고팠을 때는 행복했을까요? 아닙니다. 배가 고플 때는 배를 채우는 단순한 소원이 있었지만, 배가 부를 때는 더 나은 삶에 대한 수천가지 소원이 우리의 삶에 뿌리를 내립니다. 삶은 더 풍요롭고 마음은 더 불행한 시대가 되고 말았습니다.

모세는 오늘 본문의 마지막인 신 33:29에서 이스라엘을 향한 마지막 축복을 합니다. “이스라엘이여, 너는 행복한 사람이로다!” 모세는 이스라엘을 행복한 사람이라고 말합니다. 이유는 무엇일까요? “여호와의 구원을 너같이 얻은 백성이 누구냐 그는 너를 돕는 방패시요 네 영광의 칼이시로다”라고 했습니다. 이스라엘의 행복은 하나님으로부터 나옵니다. 하나님의 구원의 은혜가 그들의 행복의 뿌리입니다. 그들이 하나님과 동행할 때, 하나님의 뜻에 순종할 때... ‘행복한 사람’이라는 모세의 축복은 이스라엘의 역사에서 성취됩니다. 그러나, 불행하게도 그들의 마음에 세상에서 시작된 소원이 뿌리내리고 열매를 맺기 시작할 때.... 그들은 우상을 섬기고 세상의 종이 되고 맙니다. 세상의 왕국에 하나님의 사람들의 나라가 멸망당합니다.

성도 여러분! 행복하십니까? 우리가 복 받은 사람들임을 확신하십니까? 그 복은 하늘에서 오는 것입니까? 이 땅에 뿌리내린 우리의 소원의 성취로 오는 것입니까? 사람이 사는 세상에서 하나님의 나라의 백성의 삶을 살기를 소원하는 성도 여러분! 하나님의 뜻이 우리의 삶에 이뤄지고 내가 하나님 나라에 헌신하고 기여하는 삶을 살 수 있다는 것이 참된 복임을 믿으시기 바랍니다. 소원의 성취가 복이 아니라 하나님의 말씀이 내 삶에서 육신이 되는 것이 복입니다. 사람의 뜻과 가치로 사는 이 세상에서 창조주이며 구속주이신 하나님의 뜻을 알고 참여하는 것이 복입니다. 이 세상 한평생을 살면서.... 예수님께 십자가를 지우는 사람이 아니라 예수님과 함께 십자가를 지는 삶을 사는 것이 복입니다. 십자가에 달린 예수님과 함께 이 땅과 하늘 사이에 서서 복음의 통로로서의 삶에 헌신하는 것이 복입니다. 모세는 선언합니다. “이스라엘 백성들아! 행복은 복의 성취에 있는 것이지 소원의 성취에 있는 것이 아니다! 하나님의 구원이 우리들의 역사와 삶을 통해 실현될 수 있도록 함께 헌신하자.”

성도 여러분! 다시 묻습니다. 행복하십니까? 우리는 수만가지 소원의 만족을 위해 달려가는 인생이 아니라.... 하나님의 뜻에 순종하고 그 나라에 헌신하는 삶을 살고 있습니까? 

Do you know the country named ‘Bhutan?’ Many of you know butane gas well, but maybe not the country, ‘Bhutan,’ It is not the country that plays certain role in the world yet. But it suddenly was known in the world. In 2010, the European organization named NEF had surveyed the BLI(Better Life Index) of each country. Surprisingly Bhutan that was not known well and one of the poor countries ranked 1st in the BLI. 97% of people in the country said that they lived happy lives.

The most important factor to understand Bhutan is ‘Buddhism.’ They believe reincarnation. They choose coexistence with nature instead of economic development even though they have less $2,000 per capita income. The national finances rely on the two part. The one is hydro-electric power using Himalayas, the other is tourism revenue. But there are only 4 international air routes because their priority is environment and the quality of tourism, not increasing the number of tourists. There is no beggar, cigarette, and traffic light in this country. There are free medical services, free education, and free housing for all the people. They believe that snow is the harbinger of a rich year, so they enjoy the first snow as a holiday. This country introduced concept of GNH(Gross National Happiness) instead of GDP. The king, ‘Jigme Singye Wangchuk’ abdicated his throne for the pursuit of happiness.

However, in 2016 Bhutan ranked 56th in the BLI. The suicide rate increased at 20th. Had any sudden misery happened to them? No. The reason why they, especially young people feel unhappy is the ‘smart phone.’ Internet has guided them into the wide world. Young people of Bhutan have thought about better future and self-realization. Parents think that they will be born again as a part of nature and satisfy their current situation, but their children view their lives with different points of view. FYI, in 2017 South Korea ranked 56th, but Bhutan ranked 97th in BLI by UN survey. Is happiness so subjective?

If so, how do we live happily? We, the Korean-american in America and Christian and Church in this world... how are we? Are you happy? I’m concerned that the topic of the sermons recently is somewhat hard and it is not easy to listen to it. So I wanted to share the word of ‘blessing’ that we are comfortable and familiar with. However, it is familiar topic, but I had to share it in uncomfortable way.

1. 복의 내용이 다릅니다.

We see many scenes of blessing in the Old Testament. Noah did, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob did, too. It is very meaningful that a person who had a spiritual authority bless his children or offspring. In today’s scripture, Moses bless each tribe of Israel feeling his death. What kind of blessing did they want from Moses? Was each of them happy for Moses’s blessing? Two sons of Isaac, Jacob and Esau were very sensitive to the blessing of their father. Because they believed it came true. Esau was stolen the blessing that he should have received and cried out for the remnant of the blessing, and poured out his anger to Jacob. Moses’ blessing is maybe the same. Each tribe of Israel listened to him and longed for the blessing.

Let’s see the details of blessing. Dt 33:1 This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death. 33:3 Surely it is you who love the people; all the holy ones are in your hand. At your feet they all bow down, and from you receive instruction. What kind of blessing does God give each tribe of Israel?

The pronounced blessing through v.4-25 is different to each tribe. Some doesn’t like it. They might have thought that I’d like that one. For example, let’s see the one for Reuben. "Let Reuben live and not die, nor his men be few." (Dt 33:6) How did Reuben feel? Next, for the tribe of Judah it might make them much more uncomfortable. For Judah God bless victory in wars.(Dt 33:7) For Levite He bless abundance and spiritual authority to fulfill their jobs as priests.(Dt 33:8-11) For the tribe of Benjamin He bless protection among the strong tribes.(Dt 33;12) For the tribe of Joseph He pours down his blessing through v.13-17. But, there is something uncomfortable v17. With them he will gore the nations, even those at the ends of the earth. Such are the ten thousands of Ephraim; such are the thousands of Manasseh." (Dt 33:17) Each sons of Joseph receives different blessing. Such are the ten thousands of Ephraim; such are the thousands of Manasseh. What do the tribe of Manasseh think about? In v.18, Zebulun, in your going out, and you, Issachar, in your tents. Which one is the better? The tribe of Gad receives the blessing of good fighter. Dan is a lion's cub. I’m not sure which is good or not. Naphtali is abounding with the favor of the LORD and is full of his blessing. Most blessed of sons is Asher; He will be rich. Moses pronounced blessing on Israelites Moses blessed each of Isrealite differently. Some looks good, some are ambiguous, and some are somewhat weird. If you were them, which one do you want to have? If you didn’t have it, what would you think about?

2. 소원이 복은 아닙니다.

Here there is one thing that we have to check. We need to differentiate. Do we long for blessing from God? Do we long for our wish? Do we pray for blessing from God? Do we pray for accomplishment of our wish? The blessing from God and the wish that occupy our mind.... are they same? Or different? Here problem happens. Israelites, tribes, Jesus’ disciples, Early Churches, and today we have the same problem. We are easily confused by the blessing from God and our wish. We think that being content with our wish is blessing.

Our wish and the blessing from God- there are many people who lost the order of life due to the confusion of these two. For example, Samson’s incredible power is the blessing. But he had a wish. He followed his wish, and lost the blessing. Canaan is also the blessing for Israelites. But they followed bigger content. To be content with their wish, they did idolatry. Here is the reason why Korean churches collapse. We don’t pray for the blessing from Heaven. We do pray for our wish. The order of our inner side has shaken. The order of Christian’s life collapse. There are many churches filled with bigger building, more abundant finance, and more successful people... not with the Glory and Joy of God.

3. 하나님의 복에는 목적이 있습니다.

If so, what is difference between the blessing and the wish? Let’s think over Samson again, Samson’s incredible power is the blessing. Why did God give this blessing? There is God’s purpose. His incredible power have to be used for the kingdom of God and His will. Every blessing from God has the suitable purpose. There is the purpose for the blessing on Abraham and his offsprings. There is the purpose for Canaan provided to Israel. There is the purpose for Job’s wealth, illness, and healing. There is the purpose for disciples full of Holy Spirit. There is the purpose for the grace over Church. There is the purpose for the grace and blessing allowed to us today. Do you know what the biggest blessing that christian and church have is? It is that we can use our lives, gift and blessing to fulfill God’s kingdom and will during we live in this world. Church and christian become God’s hands, feet and heart in this world.

So Moses bless different blessing to every tribe of Israel. Because God works through them, and God’s purpose would be fulfilled with different gift and blessing. If they had same blessing and gift, church could not convey God’s abundant and complete character and will. With each different gift and blessing we can witness the same kingdom of God and the same will of God. So, Israelites can’t complain at all. That’s because every blessing is the various path and way for the purpose, ‘kingdom of God and His will’, even though there are the better, the more comfortable, the more through the eyes of man.

We have to do something about the difference. We have to remember that every difference is for serving. When explained the gift from God to Early churches, God said the church built together through the apostle, Paul. The key point of the church built together is the cooperation with each different gift. With each gift they served each other. If I have overflowing grace and blessing that other people, church, and country don’t have, it is not for bragging and enjoying. It is for serving others and sharing. Serving and sharing make church and relationship filled with God’s grace fairly. It is true for the Israelites who received each different blessing during Moses and for church community who live in the world filled with wishes and desires today. Let’s remember that God’s abundant grace I received belongs to God and to my neighbors in need.

4. 당신은 행복한 사람입니다.

Bhutan, once was known as the happiest people in the world, but as they have smart phone and internet, they ranked 100th. Their happiness were subjective. They see other countries’ abundance and glory, and encounter the splendid world, and root colorful wishes in their mind, and their wishes guide them to unfortune in the mind. Once One song, ‘Ah, Daehanmingook’(Ah, South Korea) was so popular. Do you remember the lyric? The lyric is below: “Snatch of cloud in the sky, Cruise on the river, Happiness everyone deserves is always free... Whatever you want, you can get, and whatever you desire, you can fulfill.. ” It is the song composed 30 yrs ago. South Korea is now developed a lot and richer and more splendid than that time. But young people in Korea call it ‘Hell-Joseon.’ Old people maybe say that ‘they are full, not hungry!!’ If so, in the times of hunger and need, were they happy? No. In the times of hunger there was a simple wish that full of food, but when we are full, thousands of wishes for the better life root in our lives. Life is more abundant, but mind is more unfortunate.

Moses blessed the Israelites Dt 33:29 “Blessed are you, O Israel!” Why? “Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD ? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword.” Happiness of Israel comes from God. God’s grace of salvation is the root of their happiness. When they walk with God, and obey God’s will... ‘blessed people’, Moses’ blessing fulfills in the Israel history. However, unfortunately when the wish from the world rooted in their mind and yielded fruits... they did idolatry and became the servant of the world. The kingdom of the world defeats the countries of people of God.

Everyone! Are you happy? Are you sure that we are blessed? Is the blessing from Heaven? Is it from the accomplishment of our wish rooted in this world? You who want to live as the people of God’s kingdom in this world! Believe that it is true blessing that God’s will is fulfilled in our lives and I can dedicate myself to the kingdom of God. My life embodies God’s word is the blessing, not the accomplishment of my wish. It is the blessing that we know the will of God, the Creator and Savior and join in this world with the will and value of people. Bearing my cross with Jesus is the blessing, not tossing my cross to Jesus. Dedication as the channel of gospel between this world and heaven with Jesus on the cross is the blessing. Moses pronounces. “Israel! Happiness is fulfilling of blessing, not accomplishment of wish! Let’s dedicate ourselves together to realize God’s salveation through our history and lives.”

Everyone! I ask you again. Are you happy? Do we live to obey God’s will and give efforts for the kingdom of God, not to accomplish thousands of wish?
