* 제 목 : 성도 보통씨의 종말론

지난 8월 말에 한국의 한 시사 방송에서 과천 은혜로 교회에 대한 내용을 방송했습니다. 내용은 충격적이었습니다. 교회에 속한 성도들 중에서 400여명의 성도들이 재산을 헌납하고 말세에 피난처를 찾아서 남태평양의 피지라는 섬나라로 이주했다는 것입니다. 그곳에서 대규모 농장을 구입하고 집단 노동을 하면서 생활하는 모습이 카메라에 담겼습니다. 실상을 깨닫고 탈출한 소수의 성도들과 아직도 그곳에 생활하는 성도들의 가족들이 은혜로 교회의 실상에 대해 방송을 통해서 알렸습니다. 그곳에는 ‘타작마당’이라는 것이 있습니다. 소위 조직에서 탈출하려하거나 생각이 불순하다고 판단되면 자신을 모든 사람들 앞에서 스스로 공개 비판을 하도록 하고 소위 타작을 합니다. 회개의 이름으로 집단 구타를 당하는 것입니다. 심지어 가족들끼리 서로 뺨을 때리게 하는 일까지 있었습니다. 결국 얼마 전에 그들의 교주라고 할 수 있는 신옥주라는 여성 목회자는 외화 반출과 집단 폭행, 노동 착취 등의 혐의로 구송당했습니다.

이런 일이 처음은 아닙니다. 몇 년 전에 남한 전역에 땅굴이 거미줄처럼 깔려 있고, 북한 군대가 이미 남침의 준비를 마쳤다고 주장하는 기독교인들이 있었습니다. 그들 중에 정말 그 주장을 믿은 ‘착한 성도들’이 전쟁을 피해서 동남아의 여러 나라로 집단적으로 이주했습니다. 가정이 파괴되고 교회들이 무너졌습니다. 기억나십니까? 홍혜선이라는 자칭 전도사가 한국 교회들을 누비면서 논리도 없는 말들을 퍼뜨리고 다녔습니다. 많은 목사들이 따라했습니다. 2014년 12월에 한반도에 전쟁이 나서 절반의 국민이 죽고 기근이 들어서 어린 아이들의 인육을 먹게 된다는... 목회자들과 함께 성도와 교회가 흔들렸습니다. 심지어 동남아를 넘어서 미국까지 이사 온 성도들이 있었습니다. 왜 교회에는 이런 일들이 반복되는 것일까요? 조금만 생각해 보면 그런 주장을 하는 사람들의 논리의 허구성을 파악할 수 있는데.... 왜 그런 사람들에게 속아서 고향도, 가족도 버리고 피난처를 찾아 떠나는 것일까요?

이런 답답함이 꼭 이단에 대해서만 있는 것은 아닙니다. 여러분도 아마 기억하실텐데요... 콜로라도에 있는 한 빵집에서 여성 동성애자의 결혼식 케익 주문을 거절한 일로 소송을 당했다는 소식을 들은 적이 있을 겁니다. 미국과 한국에서 차별 금지법이 통과되면 동성애자들이 결혼식을 하겠다고 교회에 요청하면 거절할 수 없고, 목회자에게 주례를 요청했을 때 거절하면 소송을 당한다는 말이 SNS에 한참 떠돌아다녔습니다. 모두 가짜뉴스입니다. 콜로라도에서 빵집 주인이 소송을 당한 것은 빵 제작을 거부해서가 아니라 거부한 후에 그들의 개인신상정보를 언론에 알렸기 때문입니다. 목회자와 교회가 종교적 신념을 이유로 결혼식을 거절해도 괜찮습니다. 그들이 자기 성적 정체성을 따라 살기로 결정할 수 있는 권리가 있다면 우리 교회 공동체가 가진 믿음에 따라 합당하지 않은 요청을 거절할 수도 있는 당연한 권리가 있기 때문입니다.

그렇다면 이상하지 않습니까? 왜 이런 거짓된 소식들이 교회와 성도들 사이에 횡횡하고 우리는 그것을 너무 쉽게 믿는 것일까요?

1. 한국 기독교를 움직이는 네 가지 키워드

김요한 목사라는 분이 있습니다. ‘새물결 플러스’라는 출판사를 운영하면서 좋은 책을 많이 쓰고 있는 분입니다. ‘한국 기독교를 움직이는 네 가지 키워드’라는 글을 썼습니다. 그 네 가지는 ‘욕망’, ‘공포’, ‘증오’, ‘무지’입니다. 풀어서 설명하면 이렇습니다.

먼저 한국 기독교는 ‘욕망’에 동력화되어 있습니다. 예수는 믿고 복 받고 잘되는 것이 신앙의 핵심입니다. 경쟁에서 이기는 것이 미덕입니다. 건물은 더 커야 하고 종탑은 더 높아야 하며 재정은 더 풍성해야 하고 성도는 더 많아야 합니다. 한국 교회의 영성은 그래서 숫자로 해석될 수 있습니다. 얼마나, 몇 명이나....로 그 목회와 교회의 성공 여부가 평가되고, 그 성도의 신앙 여부가 판단되며, 그 성도의 삶의 성공 또한 숫자의 크기로 재단합니다. 이미 하나님이 기준이 아닙니다. 십자가를 떠난지 오래되었습니다. 말씀이 아닌 욕망이 육신이 되고 있습니다.

두 번째는 ‘공포’입니다. 피지를 피난처로 삼고 떠난 ‘은혜로 교회’ 성도들이 우리와 무엇이 그리 다르겠습니까? 다만 그들은 목회자의 잘못된 가르침에 근거해서 두려움에 빠져있을 뿐입니다. 이단은 공포를 이용합니다. 심지어 집단 자살을 하는 신앙적 광기에 빠지는 이유가 무엇인가...? 바로 공포 때문입니다. 권위주의적인 목회자들이 가장 잘 이용하는 무기이기도 합니다. 어떤 성도가 불행한 일을 당하면... 마치 목회자에게 순종하지 않아서 그런 것처럼 선전하기도 합니다. 하나님은 빛의 하나님이시면서 위로의 하나님입니다. 사람을 공포로 다스리시는 분이 아닙니다. 복음으로 사람을 협박하는 일, 참으로 경계해야 할 일입니다.

세 번째는 ‘증오’입니다. 아마도 SNS 상에서 보수적인 기독교인들만큼 적대적인 단어를 많이 사용하는 사람들이 없을 것입니다. 특히 ‘동성애’ ‘북한’ ‘이슬람’에 대해서는 타협이 없는 적대적인 감정을 드러냅니다. 물론 저는 동성애는 싫어할 수 있고, 북한을 경계할 수 있고, 이슬람을 조심스러워 할 수 있다고 생각합니다. 개인이 그렇다는데 어쩌겠습니까? 다만 그것을 공적으로 주장할 때는 객관적인 사실에 근거해서 논증해야 합니다. 얼마 전에 설교 때 한번 언급했던 예멘 난민들에 대한 한국 교회와 성도들의 거부감이 좋은 예입니다. 얼마나 많은 거짓된 정보들이 SNS 상에서 퍼졌는지 모릅니다. 그들의 종교인 이슬람에 대해 경계하는 것은 얼마든지 좋습니다. 그들의 존재가 안전하지 않다고 느낄 수도 있습니다. 그런데 그것을 여론화하기 위해서 거짓된 정보를 생산한다면 이것은 다른 문제입니다. 그것은 마치 내가 어떤 사람이 싫은데... 내 싫은 감정을 정당화하기 위해서 그 사람을 거짓말로 악마로 만드는 것과 같습니다.

마지막으로 ‘무지’입니다. 이건 좀 기분 나쁠 수 있는데요... 김요한 목사는 한국 교회가 욕망이나 공포, 혹은 증오에 동력화된 신앙생활을 하는 이유가 ‘무지’에 있다고 주장합니다. 이런 문제에 대한 객관적이고 지성적인 성찰을 못하기 때문에 우리 시대에 어떤 신앙, 어떤 교회, 어떤 성도로 살아야 하는지 답을 찾지 못한다는 겁니다. 신옥주라는 여성이 목회자의 탈을 쓰고 성도들을 기만할 수 있는 이유가 여기에 있습니다. 참혹한 예언을 하던 홍혜선 자칭 전도사를 기존 교회들이 강사로 초대해서 부흥회를 하고 아멘아멘하면서 눈물 흘리며 기도하는 이유도 여기에 있습니다. 무지해서 그렇습니다. 때로 무지도 죄입니다.

2. “마지막 때가 가까왔으니”

왜 그럴까요? 왜 한국 교회를 상징하는 말들이 사랑과 헌신, 변화와 성숙이 아닌 ‘욕망과 공포와 증오와 무지’라는 말을 들어야 하고, 또 그 말이 맞게 들리는 것일까요? 사도 베드로의 고민 또한 그랬습니다.

오늘 본문의 말씀은 1세기 초대교회가 고민했던 종말에 대한 베드로 사도의 권면입니다. 베드로 사도 또한 자신이 살아 있을 때... 아마도... 주님의 재림을 볼 수 있을 것으로 생각했습니다. 주님이 승천하실 때 천사들의 음성을 직접 들었기 때문입니다. 올라가신 그대로 내려오신다는 말씀을 믿었습니다. 그러면 주님의 재림의 시기를 제대로 알지 못했던 베드로는 이단 쯤되는 것일까요? 아니면 그것도 모르면서 사도라고 불릴 수 있을까요?

문제는 주님의 재림의 시기를 딱 알아 맞히는가 못알아 맞히는가에 있지 않습니다. 예수님도 그 재림의 시기는 오직 하나님만이 아신다고 했는데 베드로가 어떻게 알겠습니까? 중요한 것은 시기의 문제가 아니라 그때를 기다리는 성도들의 삶에 있습니다. 많은 성도와 교회가 그릇된 종말론적인 사고에서 벗어나지 못했습니다. 주님이 곧 오실 것이기 때문에 일하지 않고 오직 기도와 예배만 하는 성도들이 생겼습니다. 건강하지 못한 신앙과 은사로 교회를 어지럽게 하는 성도들이 있었습니다. 관심이 오직 주님이 언제 오시는가에 맞춰져 있었고, 성도와 교회의 영적인 시야가 가로막혀 있었습니다. 바로 그때 하나님은 베드로를 통해서 종말론적인 삶을 살아가는 성도들의 믿음과 지혜를 가르치십니다. 그 핵심이 오늘 본문의 말씀입니다.

3. 기도하고 사랑하고 대접하고 봉사하라!

오늘 말씀을 보시면 종말론적인 삶을 살아가는 교회와 성도가 지켜야 할 네가지 명령이 있습니다. 따라 합시다.

1) 기도하라.

2) 사랑하라.

3) 대접하라.

4) 봉사하라.

성도와 교회의 종말론적인 삶을 요약하면 이 네 가지입니다. 본문을 봅시다. 베드로 사도는 만물의 마지막이 가까이 왔다고 선언했습니다. 진실일까요? 거짓일까요? 사람의 입장에서는 거짓일 수도 있겠습니다. 2000년이 지나고 있지 않습니까? 그런데 시간을 초월한 하나님의 입장에서는 진실입니다. 하나님이 준비하시는 종말 앞에 성도와 교회는 어떻게 준비해야 할까요? 가장 먼저 깨어서 근신해야 합니다. 그리고 기도해야 합니다. 깨는 것만으로 안되고, 근신만으로도 안됩니다. 기도해야 합니다. 하나님과 소통해야 합니다. 두 번째는 무엇보다 뜨겁게 사랑하라고 했습니다. 사랑은 허다한 죄를 덮습니다. 거짓된 종말론에 빠진 사람들을 보십시오. 가족이 무너지고 교회가 깨어집니다. 복음일까요? 결코 복음일 수 없지 않습니까? 깨어 기도하고 더욱 사랑해야 합니다. 세 번째는 서로를 대접하되 원망이 없을 정도라야 합니다. 이 말은 NIV에서는 이렇게 번역되었습니다. “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” 직역하면 “불평하지 않고 서로에 대해서 호의를 베풀라!”는 말입니다. 이거 쉽지 않습니다. 주님의 이름으로 모인 교회 안에서의 우리의 지나온 경험을 생각해 보십시오. 서로에 대한 불평이 없는 호의만을 나눌 수 있었습니까? 네 번째는 서로 섬기고 봉사해야 합니다. 각각 받은 은사로 선한 청지기가 되어 오직 섬기기만 하라는 말입니다. 그리고 부연해서 설명하기를 “만일 누가 말하려면 하나님의 말씀을 하는 것 같이 하고 누가 봉사하려면 하나님이 공급하시는 힘으로 하는 것 같이 하라”고 했습니다. 하나님도 알고, 베드로 사도도 알고, 이 편지를 읽는 교회도 알고, 성도들도 압니다. 기도하고 사랑하고 대접하고 섬기는 일 - 결코 쉽지 않습니다. 그래서 권면합니다. 교회와 성도가 서로에 대해 하나님을 보여줄 수 있어야 한다는 것입니다. 하나님이 말씀하는 것처럼, 하나님이 섬기는 것처럼 하라는 것입니다. 성도 여러분! 이 말씀은 우리에게 복음입니다. 순종할까를 내가 결정하는 것이 아니라 하나님이 복음으로 우리에게 주신 명령입니다. “.... 하라!”의 복음에는 타협이 없습니다. 기도해야 하고, 사랑해야 하고, 대접해야 하고, 섬겨야 합니다. 마지막 때를 사는 성도와 교회의 의무입니다.

4. 하나님께 영광!

베드로 사도는 마지막으로 힘들어 할 성도와 교회를 생각하면서 왜 마지막 때를 사는 성도와 교회가 이런 수고로운 삶을 살아야 하는지를 설명합니다. 함께 읽읍시다.

“이는 범사에 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 영광을 받으시게 하려 함이니 그에게 영광과 권능이 세세에 무궁하도록 있느니라 아멘”

종말에 성도와 교회가 이런 삶을 살아야 하는 이유는 범사에 하나님이 영광을 받으시게 하려 함입니다. 누가 이 일을 가장 완벽하게 성취했을까요? 누가 기도하고 사랑하고 대접하고 섬기는 일을 온전한 순종으로 감당했을까요? 바로 예수님입니다. 그래서 본문의 마지막 절에서 “이는 범사에 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 영광을 받으시게 하려 한다”라고 증언하고 있습니다. 우리가 그렇게 사는 것이 십자가를 영광스럽게 하고, 예수님의 희생을 영광되게 하며, 하나님께 영광을 돌리는 삶이 된다고 말합니다.

세상이 시작되는 일, 하나님께서 피조물에게 시간을 부여하시고 생명이라는 이름으로 이 세상에 살게 하신 일, 그리고 생명을 거두시고 시간의 끝을 선언하시는 모든 일은 하나님의 영광과 관련이 있습니다. 창조하시고 보시기에 참 좋았던 것처럼 창조를 거두시는 일도 하나님의 기쁨과 영광과 함께 할 것입니다. 그런데 교회와 성도의 어리석음이 2000년을 계속하고 있습니다. 계속 시기에 대해 고민하면서 하나님의 뜻을 놓칩니다. 하나님의 뜻은 이미 명령으로 주어져 있습니다. 기도하고 사랑하고 대접하고 섬기는 일 - 성도 보통씨의 종말론의 핵심이지 우리를 향하신 하나님의 뜻입니다. 순종하는 성도와 교회에 하나님의 영광이 함께 할 것입니다.

Last end of August a current affairs TV show broadcast Gwacheon Grace Road church. It was shocking. Around 400 church members donated all of their belongings to the church and immigrated to Fiji in South Pacific. They purchased a large scale farm and worked and lived there. A few church members who escaped from there and some family members of them revealed the facts of the church. There was something called ‘a threshing floor.' If someone tried to escape or had an impure idea, he should be disclosed in public and done a threshing floor. It is a kind of being beaten by group in the name of repentance. It included a slapping each other between family members. Finally the leader of the church named Shin, Ock-joo was arrested on charges of transfer of foreign currency, group assault, exploitationof labor.

It was not the first one. A few years ago some christians insisted that there were a lot of tunnel like a web in South Korea and North Korea army was ready to attack South Korea. Someone who really believed them immigrate to other countries in Souteast Asia to escape from war. Family was destroyed and church was collapsed. Can you remember the person named Hong, Hye-sun who represented herself as a pastor and spread illogical and absurd things through many Korean church? Many pastors followed her. Some of them are that there would be a war in Korea December 2014 and half of Korean people would be dead and there would be famine and cannibalism. Christians and churches with pastors have been shaken. Why does it repeat? If it is thought over, it is revealed and found their absurdity. Why are they deceived? Why do they abandon their family and hometown and leave for the shelter?

This kind of happening is not limited in heresy. Maybe you remember that a bakery in Colorado was sued for the refusal of the lesbian wedding cake order. If a prohibition on discrimination passed in America and Koran and then homosexuality request for a wedding or an officiating, church cannot refuse it, or if it refused, church or pastor might be sued. They are all fake news. The bakery was sued for the disclosure of personal information to the press after the refusal instead of the refusal of providing the cake. It’s okay for a pastor or church to refuse a wedding because of their religious belief. Like they have a right to decide their sexual identity and life style, our church also have a right to refuse a request that is not suitable with our belief.

If so, isn’t it weird? Why do these false news surround us and we easily believe them?그

1. 한국 기독교를 움직이는 네 가지 키워드

There is a pastor Kim, Yo-han who are a publisher of Hoy Wave Plus and a writer. He wrote ‘4 key words that moves Christianity in Korean.’ They are ‘desire’, ‘fear’, ‘hatred’, ‘ignorance.’

First, Christianity in Korea was motorized by ‘desire.’ The key point of faith is that if we believe in Jesus, we should be blessed and flourished. Winning competition is the virtue. The building should be bigger, the bell tower of church building be taller, the finance be abundant, and the number of church member be increased. So spirituality of Korean Church can be interpreted as number. The answer of how many can assess the ministry and success of it, the depth of christian faith and his success. It’s not the criteria of God. It’s far apart from the Cross. The desire is becoming flesh, not the Word.

Second, ‘fear.’ Are the Grace road church members who left to Fiji as their shelter so different from us? They are just seized with fear according to the false teaching of a pastor. Heresy uses fear. What is the reason that indulges in religious madness like mass suicide? It’s because of fear. It is the most useful tool by authoritarian pastors. If something bad happens on a christian, it might be used for a propaganda that it happens because of disobeying pastors. God is the Light and the Consoler. He doesn’t reign with fear at all. We must be cautious to threaten others with the gospel.

Third, ‘hatred.’ There is no one like conservative christians who use hostile words a lot in social media. They especially show their strong and uncompromising hostility toward ‘homosexuality’, ‘North Korea’, and ‘Islam.’ I think that they can dislike homosexuality, be alert to North Korea, and be very cautious for Islam, of course. What can I do with individual’s thought? However, if he wants to insist, he should prove it on the base of objective facts. The refusal of Korean church and christians toward the Yemen refugee is a good example. A lot of fake news and informations spread in social media. It’s okay to be cautious for Islam. They might feel unsafe about their coexistence. However, if they produce the false informations to make it public issue, it is totally different story. It looks like that I make him a lier or devil to justify my hostility against him because I hate him.

Last, ‘ignorance.’ It might make you upset. Pastor Kim, Yo-han insists that Korean church are motorized by desire, fear, or hatred because of ignorance. He says that we cannot answer the question of faith, church, christian life we encounter today because we do not think about these questions objectively and intellectually. That’s the reason why the woman named Shin, Ock-joo masked with pastor could deceive many christians. That’s the reason why many Korean churches invited Hong, Hye-sun, the self-acclaimed pastor and cried and prayed. They did it because of their ignorance. Sometimes ignorance is sin.

2. “마지막 때가 가까왔으니”

Why? Why do the words of ‘desire, fear, hatred, and ignorance’ symbolize Korean church instead of love, devotion, change, and maturity? Why does it make sense? Apostle Peter was struggling with this, too.

Today’s words is the Apostle Peter’s encouragement about the end of the world that Early Church was struggling 1st century. Apostle Peter thought that he could see the Lord’s second coming because he had directly heard Lord’s voice. He believed that he would come back in this same way he went into heaven. If so, is Peter who didn’t know the time of Lords’ second coming exactly a heresy? Or can he be Apostle even though he doesn’t know that?

The problem is not whether he know the time of Lord’s second coming. Jesus told us only God knows the time. How does Peter know? The important thing is the life of Christians who wait for the time, not the time. Many Christians and churches are still in the false apocalyptic point view. Some christians focused on prayer and worship service only, not working at all. Some christians made trouble in the church with unhealthy faith and gift. Their focus was only on the time when Lord’s coming and the spiritual perspective of christian and church were blocked. At that time God teach the faith and wisdom of Christian who live an apocalyptic life through Peter. The key point is today’s words.

3. 기도하고 사랑하고 대접하고 봉사하라!

Today’s words show us 4 commands that Church and Christian have to observe.

1) Pray.

2) Love.

3) Offer hospitality.

4) Serve.

To summarize the apocalyptic life of Christian and church, it’s these four. Let’s look at the words. Apostle Peter proclaimed that the end of all things is near. Is it true or false? In the point view of man it might be false. It’s already passed 2000 years. But in the point view of God who is beyond time, it is true. How can we, christian and church prepare the end of all things that God prepares? First, We have to be alert and of sober mind. And we have to pray. To be alert and of sober is not enough. We have to pray. We have to communicate with God. Second, it said love each other deeply. Love covers over a multitude of sins. Look at the people who fell into the false eschatology. Family collapses and church broken up. Is it the gospel? No, not the gospel at all. We have to be alert, pray, and love each other deeply. Third, “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” It means “Do not complain, but offer hospitality to one another” It’s not easy. Think about our experience of church life. Can you offer hospitality without grumbling? Fourth, we have to serve one another. It means that be a good steward with given gift and serve. And it added that “If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides.” God knows it, Apostle Peter, the church who read this letter, and christians do so. To pray, to love, to offer hospitality, to serve – they are not easy. So he encourage. Church and christians should show God to one another. Do so as God speaks and serves. Everyone! These words is the gospel for us. It is not our decision to obey or not. It is the command God gives us as the gospel. There is no compromise in the gospel of command, “Do something!” We just have to pray, love, offer hospitality, and serve to one another. It is the obligation of christian and church who live in the time of end.

4. 하나님께 영광!

Apostle Peter explains why christian and church have to live this tough and laborious life thinking about the christians and church? Let’s read it together.

“이는 범사에 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 영광을 받으시게 하려 함이니 그에게 영광과 권능이 세세에 무궁하도록 있느니라 아멘”

“so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

In the time of end the reason why christians and church have to live this life is to be the glory to God. Who accomplished perfectly? Who obeyed this command – to pray, to love, to offer hospitality, and to serve totally? Jesus Christ! So in the end of this verse, it witnesses “so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory.” It says that when we lives so, it becomes to be the glory to the Cross, to the sacrifice of Jesus, and to God.

The beginning of the world, bestowing time on the creatures, letting them live as life, and retrieving the life, and sentencing the end of time, all of these are related to the Glory of God. The ending of creation is with God’s joy and glory like it was very good after God saw all that he had created. However, foolishness of church and christians continues 2000 years. We keep missing God’s will while struggling with the time. God’s will is already given as the command. To pray, to love, to offer hospitality, and to serve – it is the key point of eschatology and God’s will for us. With the obedient christians and church the Glory of God will be.
