* 제 목 : 만남

정확하게 기억이 나지는 않는데 한번은 명절에 부모님을 모시고 노래방을 간 적이 있습니다. 가기 전에 혹시 아버지께서 찬송가를 부르시겠다고 고집하는 것은 아닌지... 잠시 고민했지만... 어쨌든 즐거운 시간을 가져보자고 마음을 모아서 노래방으로 진출했습니다. 아시다시피 목사 가정이라 가무(歌舞)에 그리 능하지는 않습니다. 그런데 모두가 놀랐습니다. 항상 경건과 거룩으로 사시는 아버지께서 유행가 한곡을 완창하셨습니다. 무슨 노래였을까요? 바로 노사연의 ‘만남’이었습니다. 아버지는 나름 이 노래에 신앙적인 의미까지 부여하시고 운전을 할 때, 혼자 있을 때 흥얼거리곤 하셨습니다. 이 노래 다들 아십니까? 저는 가끔 아버지를 생각하면서 이 노래를 부를 때가 있습니다. 하실 수 있다면... 이런 좋은 추억들은 많이 만들면 좋은 것 같습니다.

 

I do not remember exactly, but I once went to the karaoke room with my parents at one of the Holidays. Before going, I wonder if my father will sing a hymn ... I was worried for a while ... but I decided to go to a karaoke with my heart to have a good time anyway. As you know, pastor’s family is not known for song and dances. But everyone was surprised. My father, who always lives in godliness and holiness, has song a pop song. What song was it? The song was called  'meeting'.  My father gave this song a religious meaning and he sang while driving.  Sometimes I sing by myself when I was thinking of my father.  Do you know this song?  If you can ... I think it is good to make a lot of these good memories.

 

오늘은 2018년 성탄절입니다. 몇 가지 성탄절에 대한 대표적인 오해가 있습니다. 모두 아시겠지만 예수님이 탄생하신 생일은 아닙니다. 예수님의 생일은 추정할 뿐 정확한 날짜는 알 수는 없습니다. 다만 교회가 역사적으로 12월 25일을 예수님 탄생을 기념하고 감사하는 날로 정하고 지켜왔습니다. 동방 박사들이 세 명이라는 것도 추측입니다, 성경은 동방 박사들의 수를 한 번도 밝힌 적이 없습니다. 다만 그들이 드린 예물이 황금과 유향과 몰약이었다는 것이 그들의 수가 세 명이었을 것이라 생각하는 이유입니다.

 

Today is Christmas in 2018. There are some common misconceptions about Christmas. As you all know, this is not the birthday of Jesus. We can only guess the birthday of Jesus, and we do not know the exact date. However, the Church has historically set and kept December 25th as a day of commemoration and appreciation for the birth of Jesus. It is also speculation that the Magi are three persons.  The Bible never reveals the number of Magi. But the reason why they think the number of them was three was that they have 3 items: gold, frankincense and myrrh.

 

 

그들이 목자들과 함께 마굿간에 와서 경배했다는 것도 맞지 않습니다. 성탄 카드에 나와 있는 박사 세 명이 말구유에 누워있는 아기 예수를 만나는 장면은 맞지 않습니다. 그들이 예수님을 만나는 시기는 탄생 직후가 아니라 시간이 어느 정도 경과한 후였습니다. 성탄절에 대한 가장 큰 오해는 이 날을 과연 어떻게 지키는가 하는 것입니다, 어제 성탄 Caroling을 했지요? 저도 어렸을 때부터 늘 새벽송을 따라다녔던 추억이 있습니다. 찬양을 마치면 크게 “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"라고 외쳤습니다. 여기에 함정이 있습니다. 우리가 성탄절을 마치 사람들이 즐기고 기념하는 명절처럼 생각하고 있다는 것을 말합니다. 새해는 새해대로 축복하고 기도하는 것이 좋고, 성탄을 기념하는 일은 새해에 대한 소망과는 구별되어야 합니다. 

 

It is also not true that they came to the stable with the shepherds and worshiped. It does not fit the scene where three Magi on the Christmas card who met the baby Jesus lying on the manger. The time when they met Jesus was not just after birth, but after some time has passed. The biggest misunderstanding about Christmas is how to keep this day, did you Caroling Yesterday? I have memories that I have always did Caroling since my childhood. When we finish the singing, we shouted, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!" However, there is a trap here, that we are celebrating Christmas as people celebrates and as well as celebrate new year. Commemorating the Christmas should be distinguished from the wishes of the New Year.

 

1. 성탄의 의미

그래서 오늘은 우리가 2018년의 성탄절을 맞이하고, 살아온 세월만큼 성탄절을 지켜왔겠지만 이 날이 가지는 가장 중요한 의미가 무엇인지를 함께 생각해보려고 합니다. 성탄절의 의미를 한 단어로 요약하면 무엇이라 말할 수 있을까요? 물론 정답은 없지만 성경적인 근거는 있어야 합니다. 저는 오늘 본문에 근거해서 ‘만남’이라고 말하고 싶습니다.

 

So today we will celebrate the Christmas of 2018 and keep the Christmas as long as we have lived, but we should think together what is the most important meaning of this day. What does it mean to summarize the meaning of Christmas in one word? Of course, there is no correct answer, but there must be Biblical grounds. I would like to say 'Meet' based on the text today.

 

성탄절은 사람으로 이 땅에 내려오셔서 사람이 감각할 수 있는 존재로 우리에게 다가오신 하나님과 죄 가운데 살아서 하나님을 만나면 죽을 수밖에 없었던 인류의 만남을 기념하는 날입니다. 성탄은 만남의 날입니다. 하나님과 인류가 서로 얼굴과 얼굴을 대하는 날입니다.

 

Christmas is a day commemorating the encounter of God and mankind.  Heavenly father who came down to the earth as a person, who came to us as a human being, and who was forced to die when encounters sin. Christmas is the day of the meeting. It is the day when God and mankind face each other.

 

2. 회막(會幕/tent of meeting)을 세우다.

그런데 하나님과의 만남, 이것은 범죄한 이후 인류에게 자연스러운 일이 아니었습니다. 에덴동산에서 아담과 하와가 범죄한 후에 어떤 행동을 했습니까? 그들은 하나님의 얼굴을 피해서 숨었다고 했습니다. 이후 사람은 하나님을 만나면 죽는다고 생각했습니다. 두려웠습니다. 반면 하나님은 사람을 포기하지 않으십니다. 하나님께서 사람의 땅에 내려오시고 만나주시는 장면들이 있습니다. 예를 들어 하나님은 노아에게 말씀하셨고, 아브라함에게 나타나셨고, 모세와 동행하십니다. 한 시대를 이끌어가는 영적인 지도자들에게 허락하신 특별한 은혜였습니다. 하지만 그 만남은 제한적입니다. 모든 사람들이 함께 하나님의 임재를 경험하고 만날 수 있는 은혜가 있어야하겠는데.... 이스라엘은 출애굽할 때까지 그런 은혜를 나누지 못했습니다.

 

However, meeting with God, this was not natural to mankind after the sin was committed.  What did Adam and Eve do after they sinned in the Garden of Eden? They hid away from God. Since then, people thought that if they meet God, they would die. They were afraid. On the other hand, God does not give up on people. God comes down to meet people. For example, God spoke to Noah, appeared to Abraham, and walked with Moses. It was a special grace that was given to spiritual leaders who led an era. But the meeting is limited. There must be grace for everyone to experience the presence of God and meet them .... Israel could not share such grace until the Exodus.

 

하나님은 이스라엘이 출애굽하여 광야 생활을 시작하면서 그들에게 하나님이 그들과 함께 하신다는 사실을 다양한 경로를 통해 경험하게 하고 학습하게 하십니다. 그 중 하나가 만나와 메추라기를 먹이시는 것이고, 또 하나가 구름 기둥과 불기둥으로 그들을 날마다 인도하신다는 것이고, 또 하나가 당시대 가장 강력한 군사력을 가진 애굽의 군대를 홍해 바다에 수장시키시는 것이고, 그 중 하나가 아말렉과 전쟁을 할 때 해와 달을 멈추시는 것이고, 그 중 하나가 바위에서 물을 터뜨리시는 것입니다. 어찌 말로 다 셀 수 있겠습니까? 그런데 그 모든 것보다 하나님께서 중요하게 사용하시는 상징이 있습니다. 그들이 하나님의 임재를 경험할 수 있도록 하시기 위한 하나님의 선택은 바로 ‘회막’(會幕/tent of meeting)입니다. 다른 말로 성막(tabernacle)이라고도 합니다. ‘성막’이라고 부르는 것은 ‘거룩한 장막’이라는 일반적인 의미라면, ‘회막’으로 부르는 것은 그 장막을 지은 목적이 무엇인지를 정확하게 밝히는 것이라고 볼 수 있습니다. 

 

God let Israel experience and learn through the various paths that He is going to the wilderness in Exodus and that He is with them.  God fed them manna and quail, the other leads them day by day with the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire, and the other is the defeat of army of Egypt who were the most powerful military force at that time.  Can you count everything? But there is a symbol that God uses more than all of it. God's choice for them to experience God's presence is the tent of meeting. In other words, it is also called a tabernacle. What we call 'the tabernacle' is the 'holy tabernacle', and what we call 'the tabernacle' is precisely what the purpose of the tabernacle was.

회막을 한국어로 번역할 때 한문을 차용했습니다. 어떤 의미일까요? ‘모일 회(會)에 장막막(幕)’을 사용했습니다. ‘모이는 장막’이라는 뜻이겠지요. 영어로는 어떻게 번역되었습니까? 훨씬 이해하기 쉽게 번역되었습니다. 'tent of meeting'입니다. 무슨 뜻입니까? ‘만남의 장막’이라는 겁니다. 하나님은 이스라엘이 광야생활을 시작하게 되었을 때 가장 먼저 ‘회막’을 지을 것을 명령하셨습니다. 회막은 바로 만남의 장막, 즉 하나님과 이스라엘이 만나는 처소였습니다. 출애굽기와 레위기, 민수기, 신명기에 계속 반복해서 등장하는 ‘회막’이라는 이름은 바로 하나님이 내가 너희와 함께 하며, 너희 가운데 있다는 것을 확인시키는 장치입니다. 이스라엘의 열두지파는 광야를 헤매면서도 회막을 중심에 두고 이동했고, 회막이 서는 곳에서 함께 머물렀습니다. 

 

I borrowed Chinese characters when translating the Tent of Meeting. What does it mean? How was translated into English? It has been translated much easier to understand. 'tent of meeting'. What does it mean? It is called 'Meeting Tent.' God commanded Israel to build a 'Tent of Meeting' when Israel began its wilderness life. The tent of meeting was the tabernacle of meeting, the place where God and Israel meet. The name of the 'Tent of Meeting' that repeatedly appears in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy is the device by which God confirms that He is with people. The twelve tribes of Israel, wandering through the wilderness, moved around the Tent of Meeting and stayed together where the Tent of Meeting stood.

 

 

3. 예배하는 사람들

그렇다면 회막의 용도는 무엇이었을까요? 당연히 만나는 것입니다. 어떻게 만날까요? 어떻게 하는 것이 하나님을 만나는 방법일까요? 

먼저 아실 것은 회막을 짓는 순서입니다. 여러분은 건물을 지으신다면 무엇부터 지으시겠습니까? 당연히 건물의 뼈대를 만들고 내부를 장식하고 그리고 가구를 비롯한 물건들을 넣겠지요. 그런데 회막을 지을 때는 그렇게 하지 않았습니다. 출애굽기 25-27장에서 회막을 짓는 과정을 보면 가장 먼저 이스라엘의 열두 지파를 상징하는 열 두 개의 기둥을 세웁니다. 그리고 ‘법궤와 떡상과 등대’(25:10-40)를 먼저 만들었습니다. 그 다음 ‘성막’(26:1-37)을 짓고, 그 다음 ‘제단과 뜰’(27:1-19)을 짓습니다. 당연히 건물이 먼저 서고 다음에 인테리어가 되어야할텐데, 회막을 건설할 때는 그 반대였습니다. 왜 그럴까요? 법궤와 떡상과 등대는 모두 하나님의 임재를 상징하는 도구였기 때문입니다. 사람들이 드나들고 제사하는 것보다 더 중요한 것은 하나님의 였습니다. 아무리 화려하고 큰 건물을 지어도 하나님이 함께 하지 않으시면 건물에 불과합니다. 아무리 초라하고 작아도 하나님이 함께 하시는 곳에 하나님의 영광이 임합니다. 그들이 회막을 지었을 때 "구름이 회막에 덮이고 여호와의 영광이 성막에 충만하였다"(출40:34)라고 성경은 증거합니다. 

What was the purpose of the Tent of Meeting? Of course meeting. How should they meet? How is it possible to meet God?

The first thing to know is the order of building of the Tent of Meeting. If you build a building, what would you build it from? Of course we would build the skeleton of the building, decorate the interior, and put furniture and other things. However they did not do that when they built the Tent of Meeting. In the process of building the Tent of Meeting in Exodus 25-27, they first establish twelve pillars that symbolize the twelve tribes of Israel. And they made the ark, the table and the lighthouse (25: 10-40) first. Then they built the Tabernacle (26: 1-37), and then the Altar and the Garden (27: 1-19). Naturally, the building would have to stand first and then the interior, which was the opposite when building the Tent of Meeting. Why? The ark, the table, and the lighthouse were all tools that symbolized the presence of God. It is God's that is more important than the sacrifice of people. No matter how magnificent and big the building is, if God is not together, it is only a building. No matter how small and small, God's glory comes where God is with us. The Bible testifies that when they built the Tent of Meeting, "the cloud was covered in the tabernacle of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle" (Ex. 40:34).

 그곳에서 이스라엘은 무엇을 했습니까? 하나님께 제사를 드렸습니다. 하나님을 예배합니다. 만남의 장막에서 왜 예배를 드렸을까요? 사람이 하나님을 만나는 길, 그것은 하나님을 예배하는 것이기 때문입니다. 사랑하는 남자와 여자가 만나는 방법이 데이트겠지요. 정치인들이 만나면 회담을 하겠지요. 원수가 만나면 전쟁을 할 수 있습니다. 그런데 사람이 하나님을 만나는 가장 아름답고 감사한 길, 그것은 하나님을 예배하는 것입니다. 예배를 통해서 사람은 하나님을 알고 은혜를 입고 하나님을 닮아가게 됩니다.

 

What did Israel do there? They worshiped God and gave sacrifices. Why did they worship in the tent of meeting? This was the way that man meets God. The way a loving man and woman meet through a date. When politicians meet, they will hold talks. If the enemy meets, they can fight. But the most beautiful and grateful way for man to meet God is to worship God. Through worship, people know God and receive grace and become like God.

 

하지만 그 회막에서의 만남은 제한적이었습니다. 심지어 제사장들조차 지성소에는 들어갈 수 없었고, 대제사장도 1년에 한번 죽음을 각오하고 지성소에 들어갔습니다. 예배하기 위해, 하나님을 만나기 위해 먼 길을 걸어온 순례자들도 성전의 뜰에서 제사장들의 도움을 받아서 예물을 드리고 제사할 뿐이었습니다. 하나님과의 만남에 수많은 장벽과 제한들이 있었습니다. 그래서.... 회막은 이스라엘 가운데 있어서 하나님의 임재를 상징하고, 하나님께서 그들과 함께 하신다는 것을 보여주며, 그곳에서 이스라엘이 하나님을 예배하고 만났지만.... 성경은 그것을 그림자에 불과하다고 말했습니다.(히 9:24 / 그리스도께서는 참 것의 그림자인 손으로 만든 성소에 들어가지 아니하시고 바로 그 하늘에 들어가사 이제 우리를 위하여 하나님 앞에 나타나시고) 이스라엘이 가나안에 정착하고 회막보다 더 크고 아름다운 성전을 지었지만 안타깝게도 그들은 하나님을 만나는 예배에 실패합니다. 하나님과의 지속적인 만남에 실패합니다. 하나님과의 만남의 실패는 이스라엘의 삶의 실패를 말하는 것입니다. 이스라엘로 상징되는 인류가 하나님을 만나는 일에 실패했습니다. 인류는 하나님과의 만남을 다시 시작할 수 있는 능력과 자격을 상실했습니다.

 

But the encounter at the Tent of Meeting was limited. Even the priests could not enter the Holy place and the high priest entered the Holy place just once a year. To worship, pilgrims who have gone a long way to meet God have offered gifts and sacrifices with the help of priests in the courts of the temple. There were many barriers and limitations in meeting God. So .... The Tent of Meeting represents the presence of God in Israel and shows that God is with them, where Israel has met and worshiped God .... But the Bible says it is only a shadow. (Hebrews 9:24 ²⁴ For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.) Israel settled in Canaan, Unfortunately, they fail to worship God. They fail to meet with God constantly. The failure to meet with God is the failure of the life of Israel. Humanity, symbolized by Israel, failed to meet God. Humanity has lost the ability and the ability to resume meeting with God.

 

 

4, 우리를 만나러 오신 하나님

구약 성경은 사람을 만나기를 원하셨던 하나님의 만남에 대한 약속의 말씀입니다. 신약은 그 약속이 어떻게 이루어졌는지를 보여주시는 말씀입니다. 그 약속의 성취의 핵심에 누가 있습니까? 바로 오늘 우리가 기념하고 축복하며 감사하는 예수 그리스도의 탄생이 있습니다. 그래서 성탄절이 우리에게 주는 가장 큰 의미는 바로 ‘만남’에 있습니다. 하나님과 인류의 만남, 상징적이고 그림자와 같은 만남이 아니라 만지고 보고 듣고 감각할 수 있는 실제적인 만남을 말합니다. 인류의 삶의 경험 안으로 들어오신 하나님을 인류가 만나는 것입니다. 사람의 배 속에서 잉태되었고, 성장했고, 사람의 몸에서 나와서 한 사람으로 성장하기 시작했고, 사람들과 함께 살았고, 자신의 사람을 제자로 삼았고, 사람에게 고난과 죽임을 당했으며, 사람들 가운데 부활하셨고, 사람들을 모아서 교회를 세우기를 원하셨고, 오늘날까지 우리와 함께 하시며 예배를 통해서 우리를 만나주시고 교제해주십니다. 

 

The Old Testament is the promise of the meeting of God who wanted to meet man. The New Testament shows how the promise was made. Who is at the core of the fulfillment of that promise? Today is the birth of Jesus Christ, which we celebrate, bless, and thank. So the greatest meaning of Christmas is our encounter. It is not a meeting between God and mankind, a symbolic and shadowy encounter, but a practical encounter where you can touch, see, hear and feel. Humanity meets God who has come into the experience of human life. It was conceived and grown in the abdomen of a man, began to grow out of the body of a man, grew up as a man, lived with people, made his own disciples, suffered and slaughtered by men, resurrected among men, He wanted to gather people and build a church, and he is with us to this day, and through worship, he meets and communicates with us.

어떤 제한도 없습니다. 누구든지 예수를 그리스도로 믿기만 하면, 주의 이름을 부르면 생명의 삶이 시작되고 하나님과의 만남이 시작됩니다. 하나님과 만나려면 회막으로 가야 하지 않을까요? 아닙니다. 구약의 회막이 그림자라면 진짜... 실체... 그 그림자를 만들었던 실체가 있습니다. 무엇입니까? 예수님입니다. 우리는 예수 안에서 하나님을 만납니다. 예수를 통해서 하나님을 만납니다. 우리가 예수님의 이름으로 기도하는 이유가 여기에 있습니다. “I pray in Jesus name.”이라고 기도를 마치는 이유가 여기에 있습니다. 모든 제약과 담장이 사라지고 우리는 예수 안에서 하나님께 기도하고 만나고 교제합니다. 이 놀라운 은혜와 사랑의 시작, 우리 주님께서 이 땅에서 인류를 만나주신 날을 오늘 우리가 기념하고 있습니다. 

 

There are no restrictions. If anyone believes in Jesus as Christ, if you call on the name of the Lord, the life begins and the meeting with God begins. Should we need to go to the Tent of Meeting to meet God? no. We meet God in Jesus. We meet God through Jesus. Here is why we pray in the “name of Jesus”. Here is why I prayed: "I pray in Jesus name." All the constraints and fences are gone and we pray, meet and fellowship with God in Jesus. This remarkable grace and the beginning of love, today we celebrate the day when our Lord met mankind on this land.

오늘 성탄 감사예배를 드리면서 말씀을 통해서 꼭 기억하실 것이 있습니다. 자녀들도 함께 예배하니까요.... 몇 가지 확인하겠습니다. 첫째 성탄의 의미는 ‘만남’에 있습니다. 우리의 의지가 아닌 하나님의 뜻 가운데 하나님께서 사람이 되셔서 우리를 만나주셨습니다. 둘째, 사람이 하나님을 만나는 가장 좋은 방법은 ‘예배’입니다. 광야에서의 ‘회막’은 ‘tent of meeting’이었는데 meeting의 핵심은 제사였고, 오늘날 예배입니다. 셋째 그러므로 우리는 예수 안에서 예배하고 살고 예수를 닮아갑니다. 그러므로 성탄 감사예배는 예수님과의 만남을 감사하고 예수님처럼 살겠다고 결단하는 날이어야 합니다. 

I would like to have everyone remember few things today in today’s Christmas service. First, the meaning of Christmas is in 'Meet'. God has become a man by the will of God, not our will, and has met us. Second, the best way for a person to meet God is worship. The 'Tent of Meeting' in the wilderness was the 'tent of meeting'. Third, therefore, we worship and live in Jesus and become like Jesus. Therefore, it is a day when thanking the meeting with Jesus and deciding to live like Jesus.

 

2018년의 성탄절에 하나님께 영광과 감사를 드립니다. 그리고 하나님과의 아름다운 만남 가운데 있는 여러분을 축복합니다. 하나님과 더욱 깊은 사귐이 있는 우리들 모두가 될 수 있기를 우리를 만나주신 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다.
